Anyone know where I can get a cheap Skylake processor, I need one to update my motherboard's bios so I can get a Kaby Lake.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap Skylake processor, I need one to update my motherboard's bios so I can get a Kaby Lake.

I wouldn't worry about Kaby Lake- the *only* thing Kaby has over Skylake is a slightly improved gpu (has some special 4k decoding option for netflix I think), otherwise they are the same design underneath. Kaby clocks *slightly higher* on average but we're not talking much.

Personally, I'd get the best Skylake processor I can get my hands on (they are cheaper than Kaby these days), buy a good cooler then overclock it to Kaby lake levels.

If you are buying a new motherboard, it may well have the enabling bios already installed.
The updated bios were released in November 2016.
Motherboards shipped after then should already have the current bios.

If you already have the motherboard and you know you need to update the bios, See if you can't borrow a cpu.
Or, take the motherboard to a local repair shop.
They will do the update for you at a more reasonable cost.
It would probably cost you $40 to buy one used on ebay.
