i don't know if i might get criticised for this. But i really quite like the zalman 9500nt cooler, i recommend gettng the 9700 or 9900, or their new extreme edition. Partly since they have manual speed controllers, basicly a variable resistor so that you can quieten down the noise of the cooler whenever you want, or turn the power up to a high rpm speed to massively cool your cpu down as quick and as much as possible. Also i like them because they have led lights on them, and look nice even with a case with air vents, the leds are quite bright too. But then zalman are expensive, are they not? What is your budget.

Have not used it but saw/talked to a couple of peeps at a local Lan Party that did have it and had a good look at thier cases, temps and asked if it was an issue to install on the P55 board and I only got good responses from them, only one guy had an issue installing it on an AM3 EVO board.

Cool, I've had my eye on it, and was wondering about its first hands on performance, but I still want the Thermalright Extreme 120, with 2 120mm fans in a push pull configuration, but its kinda expensive and not at the top of my list right now.

I figure by the time I can snag it, it will be seriously dethroned, just curious have you seen the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme? Its rather impressive.

is the op an extreme overclocker? If not why not go for the zalman 9700, it has a high reach in the way that it won't touch the tops of the motherboard heatsinks. Will look good in your case that has a clear window and it has led lights. Quite easy to install as well ,i have a zalman 9500nt, but the 9700 is completely identicle, just larger.

actually, wait on second thoughts looking at that link, go for the best value one. And wow heatsinks look soo expensive in the US, they cost much cheaper in the UK, taking currency conversion into account.

Why don't they provide the backplate? One reviewer on that link bought the cooler and forgot to order the backplate. Makes no sense to buy a product that states LGA 1156 compatible but yet it comes w/o the most important part.

I never understood why manufacturers are taking so long to release affordable coolers for the 1156 socket. One would think that they would be in-stock before the mobo's came out....

The 9700 is old tech. It's no longer a top contender.
