I'm just curious as to what the best FM2+ CPU is. I'm beginning to buy parts for my newest rig. Also, is it better for gaming to have hex or quad core processor? My current rig has AMD Phenom II 6-core processor and computes quickly as it should. Are the new FM2+ quad-core CPUs good enough or should I consider a hex core? Finally, would you recommend Intel or AMD?

x4 860k :)
Its basically the a10-7850k without the GPU.
there's a build that confirmed x4 860k won't bottleneck even r9 280.
Be warned, Intel fanboys would swarm you up in less than weeks saying that AMD sucks in Single Core Performance.

In my experience, I don't really see a disadvantage in AMD besides the high TDP in their cpus.
Ask yourself with this questions ...
The FM2+ CPU's and APU's are very Good, But a lot of Intel fanboys around here are going to criticize the hell out of me for this.

The Best CPU: The Athlon X4 860K. At $85, being a Quad-Core CPU at 3.7 Ghz., 4MB of L2 cache, and the ability to Overclock, It's the best CPU for the Money, period. Pair it up with a R7 260X or any R9 Series card, and you can game at 1080p no problem.

The Best APU: The A10-7850K. Despite its $170 Price tag, you getting the same stats as the 860K, along with Integrated Radeon R7 graphics. Pair it up with 2400 Mhz AMD R9 Gamer series RAM, And you can game at 1080p on most games. And if you do want to upgrade to a dedicated GPU, such as a R9 280X or GTX 970, The option is so there.

Overall, The Athlon X4 860K is great when hooked up with the right GPU. And the A10-7850K will do well even on it's integrated graphics. Don't let the Intel fanboys deter you from the A10-7850K. It's probably now the most underrated APU out there you can buy. You won't be disappointed.

Also, I have a $500 APU build that uses the A10-7850K in an ITX Platform. I recomend this build if you need a budget gaming rig that you can take anywhere as well. (That is, if you're also willing to carry a Monitor with it. opps.)

Hope this helps, Mate!

Ask yourself with this questions :

*Do you care about Wattage? Be reminded that higher wattage declares more power, and more power = more $$ so think twice before you buy. Intel and its 22nm architecture is power efficient <~ the only advantage I think that intel has now? Whilst the new x4 860k is based on 28nm steamroller from AMD, at least 5 TDP least from FX-CPU's and may eat at least a chunk portion of power for that cpu so beware of paying more $$ for your electricity bill.

*Are you budget oriented? Doesn't care about benchmarks but still wants multitasking while you play games? Go for AMD. at the pricepoint. G3258 is the only competitor of x4 860k. If you choose g3258 it would hurt multitasking because of its 2 cores. So be evident about your gaming behaviours. If you play games while recording, running AV programs and Executes more programs at the same time. x4 860k is the real winner. Overclock it to 4.2 ~ 4.5 ghz and you will get negligible performance.

To break this down. Intel = lower power usage amd = better multitasking + gaming [PERSONAL REFERRENCE NO BASHING PLEASE]
Either CPU Brands makes good CPU's.
Extend your research more.
