It is time to replace my ancient 19" lcd viewSonic monitor. I went shopping today and bought a Samsung S27A350H for $250. After reading some of the talk about text being kinda fuzzy, I am considering dropping down to a 24" monitor. I am primarily going to be using it for pc gaming (SWTOR, Battlefield 3 and future fps games). I am looking for something that is not going to ghost on me. I am willing to shell out up to $800 for a monitor and am considering a S23A950 at the moment. Anyone got any other suggestions?

Wow...if you are shelling out 8 bills for a monitor I can't see how you could go wrong. As long as you have a standard or above standard contrast ratio with at least a 2ms response time with 120mhz refresh you should be fine.

I am looking to find a 24in at about a $300 price range myself.

I usually buy a monitor that is going to last. I have had nothing but Viewsonics for all my systems till now. The 1 year warranty on the S27A350H kinda bothers me too when almost every company offers a 3 year. The other option was a $299 Planar SA2311W. I have read alot of good things about that monitor. It is 120 hz and 2 ms. It is another monitor I can not test at a store though. I also have not heard about this company till now.

Hey I just think you found me a monitor!! That Planar is exactly what I am looking for. I have a great 17in Samsung but I feel a 23/24in would be the best size for me since if it were any bigger the further away I would need it to be. I think 23/24in is maximum size that would work sitting on my desk.

I have had good viewsonic CRTs back in the day...I was looking at this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824116483&Tpk=VX2753MH-LED the other day. It isn't 120Hz but it looked really good at Microcenter. Says 1ms response time with overdrive...only 1080p though. Which isn't a big deal for me but most people seem to want 1900x1200. I don't know if that matters to me. Maybe if I see it side by side I might care.

That Planar really looks good and not a bad review in 6 left at newegg.

The video of the Planar that almost sold me.

My problem is I have a ATI 5870 vapor-x, making the nvidia 3d stuff kinda useless to me. So its either:

1# Spend for the S23a950 that can do ATI or Nvidia 3d.
2# Get the Planar SA2311W and ignore the 3d. Would like to watch Transformers in 3d if/when it comes out.
3# Stick with the S27A350H.

I do not see any decent 120 hz 2ms monitor options other than the S23A950, but at half the cost I can go with Planar. Unless there is any other 120 hz options out there....

That video sold me on the Planar. I was gonna just fore go getting a 120hz monitor altogether due to prices but I can do 300 and be happy with that bang for buck. I don't even want 3D because I am not sold on that gimmick at all when a great HD screen blows that out of the water. Having that capability to play with may be useful down the road who knows.

I will be running an EVGA GTX 580 3GB so I think the Planar will suit me just fine.

Im sending the S27A350H back. No DVI is just a deal breaker for me. Down to the PLANAR and the A950D....anyone else want to chime in? Im probably going to get something when when I return it to tigerdirect.

Tigerdirect set up 3 S23A950 monitors up today. Ended up playing Deus Ex for 2 hours on it. I think its safe to say im getting this monitor....wish i could get 3. The color compared to the 27" SA350H was alot better with alot less bleeding, but smaller.
