Hi, I'm new to the whole graphics card world and last week my friend gave me a PC with no graphics card... so i need to get a new card i have a budget of $400...
the PC is running on a FX-8350 4.3Ghz CPU, Corsair High Performance Vengeance 2x8gb, MSI 970A-G46 mobo, Corsair H100i liquid CPU Cooler....
my friend told me that is a really good computer that's why i want to get the card.

please help me choose the right card for under $400 I'm going to use it to play BF4.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, if you really want to go top-end you could also go for the R9 290. That will give you plenty of scope if you want to go multi-monitor or 4K in the future.

This is true; are you looking to upgrade for tomorrow, or next week, figuratively speaking. As we all know; technology moves so fast you have to think about scalability.

well i need a card that can hold me up for a few months, my friend had suggested me the Gtx 780ti but when i check for price it was way out of range for the cash i got. but eventually im going to get it.

But which 280x should i pick? they have different brands, and how many GBs?

Core clock, boost clock and memory clock are more effective specifications than an extra 1GB GDDR5 and 128-bit wide bus. Plus those specs aren't apples to oranges between the different GPU's; CUDA cores and stream processors are.

Solution

I'm biased towards AMD, therefore inherently, ATI :pt1cable: lol, I know, doesn't justify illogical decisions.

Yes biased, of course that's why I bought a 770 myself. Look I'm not getting into some sort of weird reds vs greens thing here both brands have their merits. The OP wants a good value placeholder GPU for Battlefield 4 until buying something more powerful later.

In my OPINION the R9 280x is the best choice. Your OPINION is different, that's fine. Absolutely no need to start insulting me with crazy googly eyed emoticons.

It wasn't an insult towards you, not even close, not sure how you misconstrued that. I said I was biased, not you? It was simply me explaining my reasoning.

Fair enough 😉

Lol, that's exactly what I meant, I should have specified "against."

No worries.
