i recently decided to upgrade my old p5kpl am asus mobo pc from core2duo e7400 to core2quad q8200. but i'm afraid my 2008 american megatrend bios will not recognize the cpu. so i went to search the newest version of BIOS and i found the 2010 asus one. and again, i'm afraid it will destroy my computer.

some articles said that updating bios will be risky and could end up deactivating (or something like it will not run anymore forever) the mobo if i don't do it right. so i come here to get some help from computer experts.

the 2010 version offered this features:
-motherboard aafp definition updates
-fan error fix (which is my problem everytime i turn on the pc every 1-2 days, requiring me to restart once or twice)

my last hope for the cpu upgrade is q6600. which is more powerful but requires more wattage.

so, my questions is:
-what will cause the mobo to stop working in bios update and how to avoid it?
-does core 2 quad q8200 support the 2008 version of bios? so that i don't need to update and just install it right away.
-if problems occur, what should i do?
-are there anymore problems i need to afraid of?
-i've tried installing windows 10 installation files in my usb and it didn't work, will the bios update end up the same with that windows 10?
-if the usb doesn't work, will it stop my mobo from working?

tons of thanks for anyone who is willing to help me!
