My dad is looking to build a new PC for work as his current one just doesn't cut it for some of the files he has to edit. He deals with extremely large images and it takes hours to do anything. Price isn't much of a concern as the company's paying for it.
I've tried researching these things but there's not much info on Illustrator itself and what components really contribute to its speed and what's there kind of contradicts what other posts say.

Current build (to the best of my knowledge, might be slightly different)
i7-4790k
16gb RAM
GTX 1050
500gb SSD (Samsung 860 EVO or Pro, not sure)

Thank you!

You don't need to build anything. Just replace a few parts.

For the graphics card you should check out the RTX 2060 or a 1080. Quadros also suitable.

You may want to upgrade to a i7-8700k or 9700.

You should also get a 1 Terabyte ssd and a good hard drive. 970, 860, 850 Pro Samsungs are everyone's favorites.

Depending on the type of imagery he does, you might want 32 gigs and 3200mhz. G.Skill Trident or Corsair ram.

Ai is largely cpu based and the majority of tasks are only lightly threaded. Cpu, ram and storage is the main concerns. Gpu does affect depending on the use. If the company is paying for it, you might as well go with the best components you could get for it. Vapour is on the right track but I may go with a higher quadro. Threadripper would get less performance.

Adobe has articles of how to improve performance on all of their software. They also have documentation on all gpu accelerated features and most other technical aspects. There's no point in third party saying how to do it when you can get the info straight from the creators. There are also a few benchmarks around.

Would the 9900k be better than the 9700k? Higher clock speeds and more cores.

Why a quadro over a regular GTX card? Would a higher end quadro increase performance noticeably?
