Hello. I am looking for a Laptop or Desktop for my father. He just retired and wants to try his hand at day trading but his current laptop is old and slow.
At first he heard somewhere that he would need a powerful gaming laptop with a high end video card for this endeavor but I know that's false. I'm looking for something between $400 to $1000 for him. A Laptop would probably be a better option but if the price of a desktop is much lower then we'll go with a desktop.
Here's what I need it to have and a few questions about.
1. If it's a laptop he needs it to have a large screen like 17 inch because of poor eyesight.
2. I was told that while the video card isn't important, but outputs are. You need to have the outputs for multi monitor support but what about a splitter?
3. I was told RAM is important because he is going to have a lot of things open at the same time. Now my question about this is this. Is 16GB enough or should we aim for 32GB? Also is DDR3 good enough or do we want DDR4?
4. A decent processor would be nice. I heard Ryzen CPUs are good for trading because they have more cores?
5. SSD is a must, doesn't have to be the fastest one though I think just about any current SSD would do.
6. This is probably the most important thing. I need this thing to have multi monitor support as he intends on having at least 2 monitors and the laptop screen or maybe 3 monitors with the desktop. Again, would this be possible with an integrated GPU on the mobo or is a dedicated GPU a must?
7. If it's a desktop I want to just get him something prebuilt and not go through the headache of having it assembled. Something small would be better.
That's about all I can think of for now. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
