Need a little information on first time start-up

So earlier today I finished figuring out my build and bought it. So I have a few days before I can get my hands on the hardware but I was wondering, what happens the first time on start up? I have never built a computer before (I feel extremely confident putting it all together as I have in the past taken apart and put back together computers that already where running, just for fun) and have no idea what to expect when I turn it on. I assume a BIOS window will appear or something? Will the computer walk me through it on screen, so I don't screw it all up and also, what tests can I do to make sure everything is running smoothly and defect free? Any information is greatly appreciated.

By the way, here's the build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3cdjA

Also if you will answer me this, do you think this comp is strong enough to run a lot of games (wow, titanfall, skyrim) on ultra, or close to ultra settings? Thanks!

Nothing wrong with 8.1. It is more optimized and it only takes a couple of minutes to make it look like 7 by downloading a program for free. So it will look like 7 but have the benefits of 8.1. It seems like a win-win to me.
Anyways, your build is really solid except the old case. There are probably better cases for the price but if you really liked the look or already own it then whatever.
When you first press the power button, it should take you into BIOs. After configuring whatever you want in the BIOs, make sure that you set the boot priority to the optical drive and then put in the Windows 8.1 installation disk into the optical drive and restart. That should take you to Windows installation and it's pretty straightforward from there.
First off I would start by returning :pfff:Windows 8:kaola: and buy 😀Windows 7 Pro:bounce:, Windows 8 is a nightmare for compatibility and user friendliness IMHO. Looks like a solid system for gaming. As for putting the system together I would highly recommend reading this first helped me tremendously the first time I had issues. The first time you start the system it will throw you into the BIOS weather it be UEFI or plain bios so you can set up the motherboard to work with the components you have plugged into it. The first time around it is easiest to go to the last tab and load system defaults from there and it will automatically load the auto settings for your equipment for you(just make sure your DVD drive or usb drive you are going to boot windows from is first in the Boot Device Priority), you can always return later to OC or tighten your RAM timing if you wish. This is how I start all systems as it is usually the most stable and eliminates initial issues. Once you have done this you pop in your OS disk and begin programming your system, windows makes this pretty idiot proof. After that I usualy update windows till its all up to date and install MSE and then go back into the BIOS and OC the system. This is all in a nutshell hereafter as its not as easy as it looks more research should be put into OCing if this is what your looking to do as this is just an overview. Go back into BIOS and set up your OC save and restart. Now install CPUID, Hardware monitor, CoreTemp, and Prime 95, start all these programs in this order start Prime in small ttf and monitor your temps and tweek your system till your happy with your speed and temps. There ya go easy as finding a mullet in a truckers convention😀.

Just my 2 cent do with it what you will.
