I'm tired of crap quality microphones that come on headsets, can anyone put together a decent mic setup with a boom arm so I can stand it behind my desk and just move it towards me where I sit. Max budget would be 400-450 USD. I'm not very well versed in the world of microphones so Im not sure what to buy

Solution
Before You go that route, try a headset with a noise cancelling mic. This gets tricky: There are several kinds of noise cancelling headsets, and most of them are not what I am referring to. I mean a headset with a mic that actually has 2 or 3 mics in it, so it takes your voice and subtracts the room noise from it, leaving good quality audio.

A Logitech H110 (less than $10 on eBay) or H111 will do the job for spoken voice. You would want something nicer for singing performances.
