Hello all,

so my motherboard just died on me...so i am pretty drained and annoyed...and in need of an essentially plug n play motherboard.
what i have are as follows:
2 corsair ddr4 (2x8gb) 3000mhz (cmk16gx4m2c3000c16) 16-18-18-36
ryzen 7 1700x and standard cooler that comes with it
nvidia GTX 970
970 evo nvme m.2 250gb
evga 750 g2 power supply
Phanteks Enthoo Pro 2 Full Tower

what i am asking is...from your experience what motherboard would you recommend that i buy which allows me to have 16gb usable memory and support for my m.2 drive in that i will b able to boot my os from it without any issues and without all the bells and whistles

thanks in advance.

That was a huge leap in BIOS updates, from a very old to a much newer version. When you performed the update, did it complete successfully?

Pickings are slim in your price range. Open box offering from Newegg:

Some Amazon offerings:

What make/model motherboard do you have now? What is your budget? How did you determine that your motherboard is defective?
Asus Prime x370-pro....budget less than $100....after bios update..it will not post...no keyboard...no mouse just black screen...no beep...only fans spinning when powered on...and rather than hurting my head troubleshooting some more i just prefer to get another board....your suggestions on a fix are welcomed but i'd much rather be done with it.

Did you try manually resetting the BIOS during your troubleshooting? Where do you purchase PC parts from?

I used to have one of those motherboards. What version of BIOS did you upgrade from and to?
if what you mean by manually resetting is removing cmos then yes...i purchase from amazon/newegg...but in this case i wasn't expecting this to happen and i just need to get back up and running until i can do better...so pretty much lookin for a deal...it was Ver .0610 to Ver 5601

yes.... that is what is so puzzling....it went through the process normally and indicated at the end with a prompt saying updated successfully then it restarted automatically but nothing came on

If you want a minimal issue motherboard change, buy the exact same make/model replacement.
It will come with a current level bios and will run on your current windows.

But... I doubt your motherboard failed.
Updating a bios can be risky and difficult to recover from if the flash fails.

There are some suggestions as to how to recover in this thread.
Try them.

This will sound strange, but try this.

Power the system down and remove the GPU from the primary x16 slot and move it to the other X16 slot (the middle one).

Try powering on the system again.
no luck...i've even tried the onboard video....but from your recommendations i will go with the Asus Prime B450M-A....and just to be clear i will be able to simply transfer my m.2 drive and it will work w/ 16gb memory from my corsair ram sticks?

i appreciate the advise but 'kinna' turned off about the whole thing...and just would like what i have to work as best as possible for minimal price...mayb after a while i'll get over it and get something better...but until that day comes....i going to go with
COLGeek recommendation

This is correct. The Ryzen 1700X lacks an integrated GPU. You need a Ryzen model ending in "G" for that.

Yes, your SSD and memory should work fine with the Asus Prime B450M-A.

You will likely have to reactivate Windows after swapping the hardware. Would be a good idea to update Windows and your main drivers on the new config as well.

For optimal use, a full, clean install of Windows is recommended. But that seems to not be your intent.

"Onboard video" really is a misnomer. The HDMI and display port on the back panel of a motherboard are only active if your CPU has an integrated graphics processor.
ahhhhhh...so that's why i thought that...and for quite ah while i must add...at least can correct others know with this new found knowledge

cool

It depends on whether or not you overclock...
Well, I really think that ASUS should RMA that board (sounds like planned obsolescence deliberate bricking), but this board will be more advanced and should do all that you want. I don't think it'll be a great overclocker but it has a lot to offer for only $75:
Gigabyte B450M DS3H: $75 at newegg:
https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b450m-ds3h/p/N82E16813145083?Item=N82E16813145083
If you just want a stopgap motherboard, then you could even go A320. It doesn't support overclocking but you did say "without all the bells and whistles " and this one it does have an M.2 slot:
ASUS A320M-A PRO MAX: $56 at newegg:
