need a new cpu

i am looking to buy a new cpu for around 150. my cpu now is AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.6GHz and i would like to get one that is better and will go with my new graphics card asus hd 7770. im new to buying new componets so i dont know what to get but i would like to get one for a decent price and not spend all my money

Just to be sure that you motherboard is compatible with the processors I'm about to give you, download CPU-Z at http:// and see if you can find what socket type your Athlon is under the CPU tab, and look down where it says package.

Okay, I found the AMD FX-6350 Vishera 3.9GHz. The processor is $139.99 on http://. But I do strongly recommend you get the AMD FX-8320 Zambezi 3.5GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) for $159.99 on http://.

That is an AM3 socket cpu, so unless you have an AM3+ motherboard, which you probably dont, you are limited to no FX series.
For that socket the Phenom II X4 965 is a great cpu , but it is discontinued and hard to find.

I have done a lot of research on different websites about AM3 and AM3+ compatibility a while back, and lots of other people say that the two sockets are compatible, and trust me the two are. Don't believe me? http://.

It might work, BUT that depends on motherboard BIOS. Also some wont accept the extra pin on the FX series. 3+ socket is backwards compatible with 3 but not the other way around for the most part. There are some exceptions, but not enough to recommend it.

That's very true what you said about the BIOS. The FX CPU's I recommended are AM3+, and his board is most likely AM3 so hopefully the MB and CPU are compatible if he decides to buy it.

Go tohttp:// Download that program and run it. Now check the CPU tab in the program and look at the "Package" slot in the CPU tab.

EDIT: there apears to be no AM3+ bios for that, so its a new board, or a Phenom.

FX-8350 hands down. For any of those actually, all of them support it perfectly.

Actually you should get the 7850 for $190 or the R9 270x for $200 if you have the money. If you don't just purchase another 7770.
