Need a new GPU (must be a specific size)

Hi all. This is my 1st thread/post.

I'm looking to acquire a new GPU. It doesn't have to be cutting edge but I'd like something a bit beefier than what I'm using just now. My current GPU is the Radeon HD 7770 @ 3GHz, which has an apparent size of 8.3" x 4.4". I'm just looking for something a little bit better than the 7770, maybe the 7850, but that particular card wont fit in my case. My friend let me borrow a spare GPU he had, the 7850 (I think), but it wouldnt fit in my case so that's why I need a GPU that's the same size as my current one. I really dont want to have to buy a new case because I'm planning on building an entirely new system next year. In the meantime I'm just looking for something that's a little bit better than the 7770 but wont break the bank, so to speak.

Can anyone recommend a relatively decent GPU that is better than the 7770 but has the exact dimensions of 8.3" x 4.4"?

My PC:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
AMD Phenom II X4 955 Processor @ 3.2GHz
ASUS 880 GM-LE Motherboard
4GB Crucial DDR3 1333MHz
AMD Radeon HD 7700 @ 3GHz
2Tb Toshiba SATA HDD
Tesla ATX 750w PSU
22" Toshiba Widescreen LCD TV

My rig isn't cutting edge but it'll do for now. I'm going to build a new system next year but for now I'm looking for a slightly better GPU that is the same size as the one I have currently. My case is just a generic medium sized one. It's not great but it's more than adequate for now.

If anyone could recommend a GPU i would appreciate it.

Thanks for reading. Merry Christmas :)

What exact case do you have?

This is exactly what I was going to suggest if OP really has a small case. Gigabyte already has a Mini-ITX version of the 970. I wouldn't get a 970 if II were OP because his CPU is a little old. A 285 would go well with his build

Also OP you need more RAM if you want to go with a 760/285/970 because 4gb isn't enough for modern gaming. Shoot for 8gb of DDR3 1600

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127794 - could drop in 2 crossfire - but More ram definitely needed. But how much money do you really want put in older system?

Like he said 760, 285, 970 - all have card dimensions on new egg. Toms-hardware has graphics card hierarchy chart. Drop in more ram, bit better video card and will take you to next build. On my first gen i7 i still run 570 runs most anything.

Thanks for that list of cards. Seriously considering the GTX 970 @ 4GHz. I'll be able to run modern games at high settings with a much smoother framerate.

I'm going to get an 8Gb stick of RAM next week as my board only has 2 slots and 1 of them contains a 4Gb strip just now.

Not sure what my case is. It's not a brand case, just a generic cheapo thingy. It's not a mini case but it's not a large one either.

Thanks for the replies.

Your CPU would bottleneck a 970. Your best bet would be a 285

Getting a new case is such a cheap and fun upgrade especially if it is replacing a prebuilt case I wish I'd have done it sooner, airflow/temps/overclocks are a lot better. I like all the mini cards suggested depending on what level/price you want but if you get a new case you are open to ANY GPU instead of a few specific ones.
