I've got a bit older machine (Phenom x3) that my larger 3 TB HD is taking a dive. I use the system as a Plex Server and use Lightroom for raw editing.
I am currently using a 1 TB drive for the OS and the 3 TB drive for media. But now that I need to replace the 3 TB drive I am thinking of a couple routes.
1. I could get a newer 2-3 TB 7200 WD Black drive. Run it for everything and ditch the 1 TB drive.
or
2. I've got a few year old Kingston SSD drive (snv125-s2/64GB) sitting unused. So I could run this for my OS and then for the time being reuse the 1 TB for media (I really do not have much over a TB at any given time). Need be buy a bigger media drive down the road.
But does the Kingston have any benefits over a newer 7200 drive? I think the read times are actually slightly lower than the newest Black WB drive.
Thank you for your input!
