Need a new monitor, can't decide.

So basically i'm looking for a new monitor for my 3 year old gaming rig.

I've read all around the internet about good monitors right now, 1440p or 120/144hz etc etc. Going from a 22'' I've mostly been looking at 27'' monitors cause i like the size and want a bigger and more visual experience in my gaming.

My current GPU is a Geforce 470 gtx, and this card seems it's not powerfull enough to feed either the 144hz or the 1440p monitors.

So I'm thinking i will upgrade my GPU later, as I need a new monitor now since my old one doesn't work anymore.

I've been looking at:

ASUS VG278HE
ASUS VE278H
ASUS VE278Q

I like the overall look on the black Asus monitors, don't want anything white or sliver. Open for any other brand ofcourse, but keep in mind that i'm Norwegian so theres a restriced accessibility for me.

I will mostly use it for gaming and watching movies. I do not require 3D compability.

What i play: Skyrim,Tera,Bf3,Fallout,Farcry3,LoL. Nothing hugely competitive and i mostly enjoy singleplayer adventure games (Skyrim,farcry,fallout) you get the idea.

So what should i do? what would i benefit more from in the future?

I'm mostly thinking about getting the ASUS VG278HE because then i can just set it at 60hz and then raise it to 144hz when i upgrade my GPU.

My current budget is at about 500$.

Any help regarding this matter is hugely appreciated as i'm having a tough time deciding. I'm also open for any suggestions.

I'd get the 3d monitor. what's this BS about lowering the refresh rate until you get a better card. Don't be a dork. the smoothness in even everyday usage other than gaming will shine through.

not to mention a monitor for that occasional 3d movie or game..... you're set.

Well, the thought behind reducing it to 60hz is because to my understanding the 470 gtx would cause screen tearing if i set it to 144hz.

screen tearing happens when a 60Hz monitor is being forced to display more frames than possible....

..... or not enough frames......... jutter or whatever that word is when the frames suddenly drop from high to low. Think that was the reason behind adaptive vsync. To help smooth out the frames and keep that from happening.

just leave it stock ( 144 ) and see what happens. read up on adaptive vsync.

If you think you might use 3D then go for that one if you have no need for the 3D get one of the other monitors and save the $100 dollars and put it towards your GPU upgrade. As for adaptive Vsync it is crap you better to just set vsync to on and leave it that way rather than even messing with adaptive vsync at all.

You know, for the price of those monitors, you could get one of these . It should work for your needs, and is 2560 resolution, to boot... 😀

you do realize that at 2500 res a faster processor and bigger video card are required for smooth game play?

Ok so i've been looking around some more, and found 2 IPS monitors that seems promising. I figured i would benefit more from a IPS monitor since i mostly enjoy games like skyrim,farcry etc. Though i'm not sure if they're too slow, will i experience any problems while playing bf3 for example?

I'm kinda stuck now, i want the quality of an IPS monitor but if the responsiveness is too noticeable high that's a dealbreaker for me.

Anyone have any experience or further knowledge about these LG monitors? Heeeeelp 😀

ASUS VG248QE i recently got this monitor and am blown away by the difference between 60hz and higher. its your vg278he's little brother. all the same except the size. mind you you will have to download an icc profile and tweak the colors but it took me about 5 mins to do this and then i was rockin the battlefield. i would definitely say go for the higher refresh vs the resolution

also i moved from a 21.5" monitor. i think 27" would be too large just cause of the pixel density. i find 24" to be perfect, but i do play a lot of fps so that makes sense. when you get into larger screens higher resolutions become more ideal
