Need a new monitor

I'm looking far a monitor to replace my 5 year old one . I'm not up to speed on all the new tech for these monitors .
A couple of features I would like .
27 inch or bigger
It would be super if it had an actual button to turn on and of with rather than this motion sensor thing .
I'm planning on upgrading my gpu later this year to a 480/490 .
Price $300USD
My specs.
4790k
8gb memory
MSI gaming 970
windows 7 64

Figure out a resolution: 1080p, 1440p, or 4K.

BTW, a 480 is a pointless purchase coming from a 970.

I know what 1080 is . Is 1440 a lot better ? Also the monitor I have is 60hz . I'm pretty sure that needs to be higher .

I have been looking at some monitors and have a couple of questions .

Would my 970 run 1440 ?
If I only could choose between faster mhz of higher resolution (1440) what would be better ?
