I've been using a Synology DS212J in a RAID1 configuration for several years with no problems, but all my PC's were Windows 7. I just got a new Windows 10 PC and when I tried to attach it to my NAS I got an error:
You can't connect to the file share because it's not secure. This share requires the obsolete SMB1 protocol, which is unsafe and could expose your system to attack.
Your system requires SMB2 or higher.
This error is ALL OVER the Synology website and I'm told it's due to a new setting in Windows 10 that refuses to talk to SMB1 (perfectly reasonable considering that SMB1 is hopelessly compromised.) Anyway, Synology has no answer for this and seems to be leaving its users hanging out to dry.
So I want a new NAS (gigabit ethernet, RAID-1) by a solid company that SUPPORTS its users. Cost is no object, but ease-of-setup, a solid company that will be around for awhile, and strong support policies I'm willing to pay for. I'm very busy with lots of projects so I want an NAS I can put on my netwqork and get reliable service from without having to tinker or play IT.
Thanks in advance.
