Need a new power supply. Upgrading GPU to SAPPHIRE DUAL-X R9 280X 3GB GDDR5 OC.

Hi all. I recently acquired a Sapphire r9 280X Dual X http://. I'm upgrading from a Radeon HD 6870 and also need a new power supply. My current rig is.

Processor: i5-3550 (3.3 gHz)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H

RAM: 8 gb 1333 mHz ddr3 (2 x 4gb)

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB SATA III 7200 RPM

Disk Drive: DVD RW AD-7280S ATA SATA

Fans: Stock fans 2 for the case and 1 on the processor

External devices: keyboard, mouse, headset, sometimes a controller

Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 6870

Power supply: Antec VP450P 450W


Power supplies always confused me a bit as to what I'm looking for in both watts and amps. Could you guys help out?

So a 550 watt will be plenty then? Sapphire recommends 750W but is that just a safe overkill number?
