Need a new processor!

hey guys.
I'll keep a long story short. I am looking to upgrade my processor, I don't want top spend too much money... approx £200 but i could stretch a little. I'll list my pc specs below.

Processor: AMD fx 6350 black edition
GFX: Nvidia geforce gtx 970
Power: Corsair CXM 500W (modular)
Mobo: ASUS M5A97 LE R2.0
RAM: 16Gb kingston hyperX DDR3 1600Mhz
HDD: WD caviar green 2Tb

P.S Yes, I know my motherboard is old... I there much point in improving it? I don't understand why if its not going to give me any significant performance boost... sorry if im being naive!

For just over £200 you could get a Core i5 4460 and an ASRock H97 Pro4. You can also get an mATX version of that motherboard if you need it.

Okay, so what kind of performance boost would that get me? I understand it's not something that is set in stone but how much of an improvement would i see?

It depends on the specific game, but there should be a definite improvement. Alternatively, you could opt for an FX-8350 and keep your existing motherboard; performance would be more comparable to an i5.

Check some benchmarks and see for yourself. There will be times when an i5 will outperform an 8350 and vice versa.
