need a new quiet psu for my htpc

Solution
I gave you my recommendation. For an HTPC, we recommend fanless unit, from experience and from reading on-line reviews you check off the good ones in ya head. That model is quite decent .... but it's not fanless and therefore is less suited to your primary goal. If you have ant questions about specific model alternatives, and type "SeaSonic SSR-450RM" into your browser's search window and look for reviews from reputable sites.

While the CXM series is much improved over the previous CX series, it's still remains "a good PSU for the money", with heavy emphasis on the last 3 words. Just about every review of the CXM series talks about the cheap sleeve bearing and high noise level. Among other things mentioned are:

THG's review on the 600 watter took issue with the 3.3V rail performance in Advanced Transient Response tests
Inrush current with 115V input and hold up time.
