Need a replacement for my motherboard

I have been using an i5 4690k with a gigabyte z97 gaming 5 mobo. Today I believe my mobo blew, (took everything apart and tested components individually). That being said, do you think that it would be worth it to buy a replacement 1150 socket mobo, since it is already ~3 years old? Or should I sell the cpu and get a newer mobo socket? I can't really wait a long time to decide (or to try for an RMA request, from what I have read gigabyte does not have the cross sending and can take up to 45 days) since I also use the computer for school work, and was planning to try order something this weekend. Any recommendations?

Edit: I realize that if I were to upgrade to 1151 socket I would also need to purchase ddr4 ram, is the upgrade to the 2011 socket worth it or similar performance to what I have?

Edit 2: I use this computer for gaming primarily.

If you want all new platform then yes, it's worth it. It's likely that support for DDR3 will fade with new processors and DDR4 also runs at lower voltage.
