I'm making a blue gaming PC build and I need a good board for around $100. I'll be using the i7 4790k and a GTX 980ti

Solution

Yes it is. Plus, you've got a GTX 980 Ti and a i7 4790K. Those two products are the most expensive items in their categories. So for me, cheaping out on a mobo doens't make sence. (However, I'm not trying to bash you or do anything like that. I just find it funny that you would buy a cheap mobo with an EXTREMELY expensive CPU and graphics card.)

I suggest staying away from the anniversary edition mobos. Basically, what the anniversary edition mobos are is h81/b85 mobos with the z97 chipset slaped onto it. So you get basically none of the advantages of Z97, except for overclocking.

Again, I just want to say that...

Again, I just want to say that there is NOTHING wrong with pairing a cheap motherboard with an expensive CPU and GPU. I just find it funny that you would spend so much on one thing and not the other.

I totally get where your coming from! I just read a lot of stuff saying that an expensive mother board is not that crucial anymore. But, I will take your advice and spring for the EXTREME6. Thanks a ton

No problem. You are correct however, there is a sweet spot when it comes to motherboards. For Z97/Z170 mobos, I'd be around $150ish as the best sweet spot for anything top of the line. $200+ for those mobos is only if you want a specific feature that the motherboard has for the most part.

Sorry too if I did come back as a little harsh, but I see a lot of people on the forums here that are absolute cheap skates when it comes to computers. It does drive me crazy when something a little better is more than worth the money.

Ok, I'll stop ranting LOL. I hope your new computer runs well!!
