I need advice on what would be most compatible with my system and if it is worth spending more money on one. Also, which one would cause the least amount of a bottleneck

Thanks in advance :)

Solution
The GTX 1050Ti would be your best bet, particularly if you want to replace just one component.

A 1060 would prompt your needing a new PSU, but the 1050/Ti pull all their power requirements from the PCIe slot (with the exception of some 1050 Ti's that have more power-hungry cooling).

You're going to hit a bottleneck with that CPU, but it shouldn't be so much as to cripple a 1050's performance.
You may want to consider getting the 750 Ti. The reason I say this is because your CPU is very old, and may not be able to handle the 1060 or 1050. I strongly encourage you to upgrade your motherboard and CPU to at least an i3/i5-4xxx series to prevent any bottle necking. It may cost a bit more, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Thanks for the reply guys! This has really helped :)

I had a feeling my pc wasn't up to scratch..probably because i purchased it in 2009.

I can't really afford to upgrade my cpu, motherboard and gpu at the moment.

I was just looking for a cheap way to boost my fps and a friend told me a new graphic card might do it.

Just to clarify. I really need to upgrade all 3 things but the 1050 ti would be my best option for now?

It will still perform even with my bad cpu and motherboard?

Go for the 1050Ti for now. You'll get a big boost in performance coming from a GTS 240!

I think I will go with the 1050 ti for now. Its roughly 130AUD cheaper than the 1060 (including a new psu).

I might upgrade my cpu and motherboard but I don't think that will happen for a few years.

Plus, I have no idea if putting a 1060 in with my current specs would be more crippling than a 1050ti? I am just looking to save myself some money with a quick upgrade that will give me a decent gaming experience until then :)

Thanks again everyone. All of you helped so much 😀
