Need advice about new graphics card 290 vs 290x

Hey!
I'm looking for a graphicscard that will be able to handle 3 monitors of 1440p(7680x1440 resolution), since the titan for me is overpriced(would prefer cos the 6gb vram) and the 780 ti is out of the question since the 3 gb vram..... It's either the 290 or the 290x.

I've heard that the 290 is about the same as the 290x (true?), would a trifire solution be able to run a stable FPS in any game(with tweaks to the setting mb in demanding titles such as crysis 3)?

Also, WC or wait for the non-reference coolers? (never WC b4 so I'm kinda scurred of destroying the hardware 😛)

I saw a review on LinusTech Tips where the 290 was beating the 290x, not by much, maybe less then 2FPS, but it was able to OC better then the 290x. What are you planning on using ont he other 3 monitors? Are you gonna do the Eyefinity stuff?

I don't run Eyefinity, but I use 3 1080p monitors for my particular setup, I use 2x HD5850's and In my PCI-E x4 lane I run a HD6450, all 1 GB cards. Most people who had a 58XX cards know of the dual monitor flickering bug. So my 5850s are only used with 1 monitor while my 6450 is used with the other 2, I can even open on some games and force it to use the 6450 while I game on my primary monitor.

Tho doing it like this will take some of that fancy Eyefinity stuff away, But I don't game on on 3 monitors. With 3 monitors with that kinda of res, I think even the 7990 might get pushed to hard.

I will be running crossfire or trifire, and yes eyeinfinity with all 3
