[SOLVED] Need advice about what to do. Upgrade 1080ti or wait

I have a EVGA 1080ti graphics card thats about 4 years old. I just built a brand new PC based on a i5-11600K and ASUS 590-e. Everything is up to date except the graphics card.

I have a offer for a EVGA 3080ti FTW Gaming for about 1650 Euros. I have a selection of games that I have been holding off playing until I got the better card. Days Gone, RDRII, HZD, Metro: Exodus, Outer World.

1650 is a lot of money, BUT I fear graphic cards are going to become even more scarce based on recent announcements from Taiwan. I was going to wait, but it looks like it might be better to go now I can always sell the 1080ti and make some of my initial investment back. Even 200-300 would get me close to the MSRP.

Still I would like your thoughts. Only interested in Team Green, sorry no Radeons.

I play at 3440x1440 with VR so I need something meaty. (3090 too expensive).

Option 1. Pull the trigger, get the 3080ti
Option 2. Go for a 3080 which go for about 1400 (not sure this is worth it)
Option 3. Go for a 3070ti for about 1000. Based on the benchmarks this is a noticable step down but might be a stop-gap.
Option 4. Do nothing and wait until 2022. I know the 4xxx cards are coming out next summer but I still expect shortages. I doubt this mess will be over by then.

Your thoughts? What is the best option?

For me am thinking gpu shortage just going to get worse as 2021 goes into winter. Seem like maybe its perfect storm again with mfg's claim chip shortage and crypto taking off again and gpu already in shortage with the high price. If this pc 5700xt had not died my idea was wait until things get better but gpu had other plans. Paid overprice for 6700xt but not as bad as other gpu's I had wanted option to buy. My thoughts is if you can live with the overinflate prices then its ok. If money is tight then maybe sleep on decision.

At what resolution will you play?

My thought would be to try one of those new games and see how you do.
You will always be able to lower settings if really needed.
GTX1080ti is a good card, if you are playing at 1080P you may do ok.
At least, you will have a better idea of just what you need for those games.

I'm also waiting for an opportunity to buy a better GPU. I have a RTX 2080 which is similar in performance to your 1080 Ti, and I'm also waiting to play Horizon Zero Dawn and Red Dead Redemption 2; I've played a little bit of both of them, but my 2080 doesn't have enough horsepower to run them at the settings I want at something close to a solid 60 fps.

The RTX 3080 is a solid upgrade, but the 10 GB of VRAM seems a little weak to me, especially since there are already several games out there that run better with more VRAM. I'd definitely go with the 3080 Ti. It has more VRAM, is faster, and isn't really too overpriced compared to what we have seen for the last year. I think you should buy it, sell your 1080 Ti, and don't look back.

Yeah should have mentioned that, sorry. I play at 3440x1440 as I have a 34" ultrawide screen monitor.

I have been playing "The Outer Worlds" on the 1080ti but stopped because the jankyness was just too much. Upgrading the CPU helped but I am afraid the 1080ti is just not cutting it.

I have a offer for a MSI 3080 Suprem X10G for 1369 (300 less than the EVGA). Is the ti worth 300 Euros more?

I am struggling with this choice to replace a EVGA 1080ti

EVGA 3080ti FTW Ultra Gaming for 1669 EUROS

or

MSI 3080 Suprim X 1369 EUROS for 1369 EUROS

300 EURO Difference for the slightly faster TI version. Which would you do?

or

Gainward Geforce RTX 3080ti Phoenix for 1499

I like EVGA but 200 EUROS more compared to gainward. The MSI is 140 cheaper but its a 3080 not a 3080ti

The EVGA, if you don't have limitations with funds and your PSU is reliably built and has at least 750W of pwer for the entire system.

Thanks. 1669 is the absolute limit I want to spend. I wouldnt pay that for the Gainward. I am just wondering is the brand quality worth the extra 169?
Power should be fine CORSAIR RM750. Brand new.

In the USA it looks like the 1080ti is selling on eBay for 600-700 dollars. So I’d say you could buy the 3080ti and make sure it’s working well, then sell the 1080ti and you may get about half your money back it sounds like.
