Build Advice Need advice for building a top spec PC on a £3000 budget ?

Hello,

As the title says, I'd like to ask for some advice on building a top spec pc. I'm looking specifically for top quality GPU and CPU, I'm eyeing the the RTX 4090 and Intel I9 13900k with 64 gb ddr4 Ram. 1000watt PSU and liquid cooler.

The pc I want to use for gaming mainly, I play lots of triple A rpg games, RTS, turn based strategy, but I might consider using it for virtualisation.

This is the first pc I will build ever, so I won't know if anything might bottleneck its performance. The reason I'm looking for top quality components is because I don't want to keep upgrading it to enjoy maximum performance and quality with yearly game releases, I want to build something that will last me for a couple of years at least.

If someone has better suggestions I'm all eyes :)

You should've stylized your thread like this one;

but looking at your above stylization, you didn't mention a budget to your build. I'd highly recommend that you stylize your post with info asked of in the link above so the community can move forward with constructive suggestions.

7800x3d decent AM5 mobo saves on cooling and cheaper with the option of 8000series and 9000series cpus where as after the 14th refresh it will be a new socket all ddr5 anyway !!

yes the 13900k is the best of the best overall cpu at the moment but if gaming is your main concern the 7800x3d will more then trade blows with the 13900k in alot of games
and frankly if your after a 4090 i guess 1080p or really even 1440p isnt your expected resolution so why even go the 13900k if youre going to be mostly GPU bound !!

7950X3D if you want more cores. the efficiency cores in 13900k are not powerful. especially if you want to run virtual servers and allocate CPU cores to them.

make sure to manually configure the X3D CCD for games. when running heavily threaded tasks, the X3D CCD wont necessarily be used.

i see that you have chosen a SFX PSU, are you trying to build in an itx case?

if so, a 7950X3D and 4090 combo:

fitment confirmation of the AIO in the corsair case: https://www.reddit.com/r/Corsair/comments/147vu1z/arctic_liquid_freezer_ii_280mm_in_corsaird_2000d/

you will have support for 6600mhz rams soon with the upcoming bios update. would run at 6000 CL36 till then.

The 13900K is a cpu that can run hot while requiring exceptional cooling in order to get the most out of it. It's not a cpu to be recommended for a gaming build imo. I would look for a board that offers PCIe 5.0 and a ATX 3.0 PSU that offers PCIe 5.0. paired up with an i7. btw 32GB is more than enough RAM for your needs.

If you were looking for a top end system I would seriously consider the 7950X3D, it's as good in games or better than the 13900K but at dramatically lower power consumption. I believe there are also some niggles with the E cores and virtualization. Having all cores the same may be the simpler option.

What about longevity though? Would the amd outlast the next gen cpus like intel does now?

i personally dont know much about bottle necking i think that happens more when your GPU is like way to powerful than your cpu so like a 3600x 4090 ..
there was a site that allows you to do quick calculations of bottle necking i imputed my pc spec there was a 17% bottle neck at 1440p and 0% at 4k
and im using a 7800x3d and 7900xtx so 4k seems like it will be fine with a 7950x3d 13900k and a 4090 !!

How do you mean outlast the next gen cpus? Both CPU's will inevitably be beaten by new CPU releases.

The 13900K and 7950X3D are two of the most powerful consumer CPU's money can buy, in all likelihood both should last a long time. I would not expect the 13900K to remain competitive in games any longer than the 7950X3D.

, sorry but honestly i do not know what itx is
There are three main sizes for computer motherboards and cases, iTX (small), mATX (medium), ATX (large), eATX (extra large). ATX came first and was the original standard, it's what most people building a custom gaming PC would buy today. If your going for high end CPU's then iTX is not ideal due to the thermal restrictions in a small case.

the power supply you chose is for an itx case. those are small formfactor cases, like the corsair 2000D case i listed in my post.

the 4090 can handle 4k 144hz. the 7000 series X3D chips are the current gaming kings. and regarding longevity, you can upgrade to ryzen 9000 series [ryzen goes in a 2XXX increment per generation, weird i know] CPUs as the AM5 mobo will be supported till 2025. maybe even the 11000 (?) series.

And like told before, 16 cores with hyperthreading is better than 8 high power and 16 power saving cores. especially when VM is not properly utilising the hybrid core design.

Revised list with normal sized components:

I meant in terms of competitive performance for top quality, in game. I dont want to upgrade for a couple of years and get the best experience for all upcoming titles.

Hope thats more clarifying.

Anything with a 7 or a 9 in it is going to last more than 2 years. Even something like the 13600K will last more than a couple of years in competitive play at high refresh rates. Your comparing Ferrari's and Lamborghini's, the reality is your extremely unlikely to be disappointed with either.

also Itx is almost always more expensive with less features eg. less M.2 slots fan , headers, usb 2.0 ports i guess some gain is the only 2 ddr4/5 slots making 32 gb ram slightly cheaper ..
personally i wouldnt go a 13900/7950x3d with a 4090 in any sff case unless custom water loop !!

I agree, I've been tempted by it before but limited board choice and expandability put me off. I wouldn't put a 13900K in one.

Hello,

The fan needs to be 120mm yeah? Or can I take the 140mm?

Could I also switch your chosen heatsink with this one?
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 CPU Air Cooler, 6 Heat Pipes, Dual 120mm TL-C12 PWM Fan, Aluminium Heatsink Cover, AGHP Technology, for AMD AM4/AM5 Intel LGA 1150/1151/1200/2011/2066/1700 (PA120) https://amzn.eu/d/cUl0b8O

The H5 flow supports 140mm fans. I was think of 2 140 fans in the front and a 140 in the exhaust.

But you can go with 120mm fans if you want. I chose that Corsair fan for the airflow and noise levels.

The peerless assassin Cooler you have listed is also a good model. Choose the one you like the most!

Edit: Mistaken about the rear fan, it should be 120mm.

FAN SUPPORT

Front:

2 x 120mm / 2 x 140mm

Top:

2 x 120mm

Rear:

1 x F Series Quiet 120mm (Case Version) included

Bottom:

1 x F Series Quiet 120mm (Case Version) included

Ok cool, but I should buy 4 fans to minimise noise yeah?

Not necessarily. You have the bottom fan for gpu intake.

Front 2 fans which you should buy for both cpu n gpu intake.

Rear fan for exhaust.

Top exhaust fans not really needed with a big dual fan aircooler...

Ahh, sorry but you lost me when you wrote "x2" fans. But ok Ill buy the 2 fans thanks. Already bought the gpu and cpu, honestly cant wait to assemble this thing ha!
