Hi !

I want to buy a new graphics card for 1080p gaming but I don't know what to choose from which one of the two:
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER or XFX AMD Radeon RX 590 FATBOY OC+.

My PC specs:
  • Motherboard: Asus Z170-A, Socket LGA 1151
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6402P, 2.8 GHz
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4 2133 MHz SDRAM (Corsair)
  • Video card: AMD Radeon RX460 Gigabyte Windforce OC 4GB GDDR5 128bit
  • PSU: Corsair TX 650 M with 650W
1. I heard that the Nvidia GTX 1660 dominates the market now in terms of 1080p gaming. The memory type is GDDR6, with a 14000 MHz memory speed, yet with only 6GB VRAM and 192bit BUS memory.

2. The RX590 has, in general, 8GB VRAM and 256bit BUS memory. However, memory speed is 8000 MHz (or over 8000 MHz for some other models) and the memory type is GDDR5.

From what I've been told, if I were to take the 1660 one, I wouldn't benefit from its performance because of my PC specs, while the RX590 would probably be the better option. My budget is between 280$-300$. What do you think ? What are your thoughts ? Thanks !

They are indeed quite similar in performance. But with the budget you have, you could be looking at higher end cards like a vega 64.

But yeah while your cpu is still kinda decent, it probably will be a bottleneck.

Just look around at some marketplace sites and look for the cheapest one (from decent manufacturer). also the difference between an rx 580 and rx 590 is small (both have 8gb variants), while you can find that card for under 100 dollar.

Also, depends on the PSU u have, amd cards tend to use a bit more, certainly if you want to oc a bit. With 600+ B you should be fine

Yes, the Vega will most likely bottleneck everything,
it won't work at all with the gear I have, plus it's very expensive. RX 580 is starting to get old now and it's been reconfigured a lot of times.. it's kind of a mess. I forgot to mention, the PSU I have is a Corsair TX 650 M with 650W, I think it will do well. I'm very inclined to get 1660 Super tho.
