The WD drives you have picked are older technology. Either go with Seagate 7200.12s, Samsung Spinpoint F3s, or the Western Digital WD1002FAEX, all of which use 500 GB platters for faster & cooler performance.

I'm also surprised that you're not getting an SSD with that budget. Among others, you might consider this Corsair Nova 128 GB SSD. You will see a significant jump in system response time, though it won't affect gaming to a noticeable degree.

If you're not opposed to spending more, I'd go with two of these Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6 GB 1600 MHz CL 6 kits. Pretty much the fastest RAM you can buy.

I would go for the 5970 myself.

Onboard sound is very good these days, I wouldn't bother getting a sound card to start. If you find that it's lacking, you can always add one in later.

Oh and with your budget, you can seriously consider getting a i7-980x. It's a dramatic increase in performance for rendering/video editing, but no benefit for gaming though.

I went with the evga 760 and regret it. You really don't need that expensive of a motherboard. Spend the money on something else, like a ssd.
