I currently have:

i7-4770 3.4ghz 4th gen cpu
MSI Z87-GD65 gaming mobo
16gb ddr3 2133mgz patriot viper ram
EVGA 1070 ftw edition gpu.
Asus PG348Q Ultrawide g-sync ips 3850 x 1440 100htz gaming monitor.

One of the main games I play is very cpu dependent and only utilizes a single core. It seems like my cpu is getting maxed out and I'm not reaching full potential of my gpu. My monitor is 100htz so I'd like to be able to run the game at around 100fps. I'm currently getting 45-70fps.

option A:

4790k cpu
total cost: $335

option B:

6700k cpu
Asus Z170 pro gaming mobo
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16gb 2666mhz
total cost: $615

What would be the performance difference if any?

Is the potential for future upgrading worth the extra $300

That's what I was saying. Just upgrade the chip if you want to upgrade, as a whole new system wont give any more of an imporvement fps wise. The 4770 will bottleneck a gtx 1070 only slightly though as you can see from that guide.

Thanks for reply Multipack, but I don't currently have a 4790k cpu I have the 4770 3.4ghz. I was asking if i should keep the 1150 socket I currently have and upgrade the cpu to 4790k or buy the new 1151 socket and go to 6700k.
