Need advice on components to use in a gaming pc

Hey, I have been a console gamer for a long time and have been thinking about buying a new pc to use for gaming. I was looking at the Alienware X51 but decided to see if I could possibly build a computer for less than what I would spend on that. The price on the model I was planning on buying was $850. I have already decided on a case to use, it is a NZXT Phantom ATX full tower which I chose so that I have plenty of space for upgrading later and it has 4 included fans and 7 possible it costs $120. I don't know very much about computer parts and may be having one of my friends help me build it later just in case I can't figure it out. It doesn't need to be able to play all games at max settings but I would prefer that it had an HDMI output. Hyperthreading would be nice since I am going to college next year and am planning on taking Photoshop or Video editing but it isn't a neccesity. Before I start making purchases I am using a website to make sure that everything is compatible and to see the total price. It is okay if the price is a little over but preferably not too much.

Price is over by about $50 but will totally be worth it. This build will provide Hyperthreading usage, quick boot-ups, and decent gaming use (Can play most games high/near max)

Great rig, no need for excess cooling, PSU is enough (Rig uses probably only 450W tops), CPU is a powerhouse at it's price, GPU is awesome in price range.
Buy everything A.S.A.P with the coupon codes going on!
Won't regret it!

Are you sure that the CPU would work, it says that it is a server processor?

Also, on the website I am using it gave me a flag and said that the case doesnt have front 3.0 usb ports but the mobo has 3.0 usb headers. Does this matter? The picture looks like the ports would be on the back of the computer.

Ok, I started with your advice and researched more parts on Newegg, Youtube, and a few other websites and came up with:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (I wasn't planning on overclocking but saw some videos by NCIX and some benchmarks for this both stock and OC and they were very good. It also has hyperthreading.)

MOBO: MSI Z77A-G43 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard (Wanted a Mobo with OC genie for overclocking when I do)

RAM: Patriot Intel Extreme Master, Limited Ed 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (Is low price for 8gb of RAM)

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (Decided to start with 1tb and most likely upgrade later when I need to)

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card, possibly the OC edition but probably not (Saw that this was about the equivalent of the GTX 670 but cheaper. I also might get a second one or upgrade when I have the money)

Case: Thermaltake VL90001W2Z ATX Mid Tower Case (Read a bunch of good reviews of the case and it is cheap)

PSU: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply (Had good reviews and has enough power for the system, estimates around 380w)

Optical drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B DVD/CD Writer (Was at a low cost)

I am going to either buy a corsair H100 or H100i before I OC the CPU
The total cost was around $900 at the moment but, since I won't have all of the parts until a few months from now, I will try to buy them while they are on sales. If I can't get better deals, I have a friend who works for Best Buy who I can most likely get deals from.
