Need advice on new processor

Hi guys.

I am currently looking for a new processor for my system:

Sapphire hd 7950 Boost GPU
12gb 1600 corsair vengeance RAM
965BE CPU
Corsair 750m PSU
960GM/U3S3 FX Motherboard

The main thing I use the computer for is playing Battlefield 4 with some GW2 and Dayz thrown in.
I currently get around 60-70fps on ultra 1080p on bf4 when not alot is happening but as soon as it gets busy it drops to high 40's low 50's.

Im guessing the cpu is bottlenecking the gpu hence why I want a new processor.

Due to my budget I cant afford a new mobo and cpu so need a cpu supported by my current mobo, could anyone offer advice on which cpu will give me the highest performance increase.

I'd say go with an FX8350 if you can. The X4 is a good chip but the RAM you've got in there is wasted without a newer CPU.

Are you currently overclocked on your CPU? If not, I would look into purchasing a better CPU cooler and try to overclock the 965be to the 4ghz range. It would be a lot cheaper, and the Phenom II chips are still relevent around the 4ghz mark. There are only a few games that will present a CPU bottleneck with a HD7950, and the frame rate should still be sufficient either way.

Get an 8350 and a good cooler so you can overclock. Multitasking made easy and is future-proof for newer games that will possibly utilize 6/8 cores.

It really depends on how much money you wish to spend..

Here is the CPU support list for your current motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/960GMU3S3%20FX/?cat=CPU It appears that the 125w FX octo core chips are not currently supported. Well it says the FX-8300 is, but I never even heard of that chip till now. Oh well, you learn something new every day, lol.

Here is a comparison between a PH II 980be and the FX-8300. I picked the 980be because it's clock rate is higher than yours, and if you overclock your current chip it will be even higher again at 4ghz. They only tested 2 games for the cpu comparison but those two games are almost identical in performance. EDIT: I can't find much info on your motherboard, so it may not be a very good overclocker. The 8300 running at stock would be your best option in that case, since the PH II chips and FX chips consume a lot of power while overclocked. The base clock is 3.3ghz, and the boost clock is 3.9ghz on the FX-8300.

Well, I have orders from the boss that it needs to last a few years, as she isnt willing to buy new parts every year.
Its not currently overclocked and has stock cooler.

Its looking like I may have to try and squeeze some extra funds

Anyone have any suggestions on a good octo core processor and mobo combo? Id likely be pushing it at around £200

Decided to hold off till later in the year and purchase the 8350 and a new mobo, Id rather wait and do it right than compromise now
