Hi all, i am thinking of completly upgrading my system - a total overhaul, currently the spec i have is:-

CPU FAN - AMD AK-861CU CPU Cooler
CASE FAN - Akasa 12cm Quiet Cool Blue Case Fan (X2)

And i am thinking about replacing it with this:-

CPU - Intel CPU Core i7 2600K Unlocked Sandy Bridge Quad Core
M/B - Asus P8P67 Pro Rev3 Intel P67 Express Socket 1155 Motherboard
RAM - Corsair Memory Vengeance Black 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 9 XMP Dual Channel Desktop

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB WD7502AAEX (X2 to be raided)
2TB Western Digital Caviar Green 3.5" Hard Disk Drive

CASE - Antec Lanboy Air Blue Modular Case
PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W Modular PSU
CPU FAN - Antec Kuhler Box AMD/ Intel CPU Cooler
to be run on windows 7 64 bit home premium

any thoughts or commentss please as i am not totally sure with the newer stuff as xp was my thing - much simpler

Thanks
Andy

That GPU is a major bottleneck in your system. I would downgrade to 2500k and get a better GPU. the 2600k gives no benefit in gaming (if that is what your build is for).

will be doing some gaming WoW, battlefield 2142, battlefield 2 but nothing major realy.

how do you mean by bottle neck - by using so much performance, power e.t.c. going in and not much coming out?

what is the difference between the i7 2600K and the i5 2500K apart from the list im the pic below?

set

updated spec:

CPU - Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz Socket 1155 6MB
M/B - Asus P8P67 Pro Rev3 Intel P67 Express Socket 1155 Motherboard
RAM - Corsair Memory Vengeance Black 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz CAS 9 XMP Dual Channel Desktop
GPU - Inno3D GT 430 1GB SDDR5 DVI VGA HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card
HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black 750GB WD7502AAEX (X2 to be raided)
2TB Western Digital Caviar Green 3.5" Hard Disk Drive
DVD - LG Blu-Ray Writer, BH10LS30
CASE - Antec Lanboy Air Blue Modular Case
PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower XT 875W Modular PSU
CPU FAN - Antec Kuhler Box AMD/ Intel CPU Cooler
to be run on windows 7 64 bit home premium

unfortunatly not, as my buget is £1000 and so far with whats on there (the second list) i am already £10 over that and still need to put a card reader on that. I dont think the amd 6870 would work anyway as i am going for an intel i5 this time (was originally going to be an i7 but that came to £1140).

or is there something i could change? use a different shop, the ones i use now are:-
www.cclonline.com
www.scan.co.uk
www.buyer.co.uk

scan and ebuyer on this build as parts that i got are cheaper on there

been doing a bit more research and i think i have finaly set on a setup there will be a 2TB HDD going in from other PC

see below

Check this option. Keep your old motherboard (clean it and upgrade bios) along with your old RAM (clean this too. I would give a try, but I don't know if they can work at 1333MHz with 1.65V and 9-9-9-24 timings).

Then buy a Phenom II X4 955

A cheap but awesome for it's price CASE

Xigmatek ASGARD II B/O CPC-T45UE-U01 Black / Orange 0.8 mm SECC / Aluminum and Aluminum Mesh Bezel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

A GTX 460. Although I would like to know your resolution, maybe it's overkill!

ZOTAC ZT-40408-10P GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

And a good PSU for your system

XFX Core Edition PRO450W (P1-450S-XXB9) 450W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

With 334$ with MIR, in my opinion you'll be more than fine!
