Hi, I recently had my GTX 770 2GB returned for repair through ebuyer as the HDMI port had died. I just received an email today saying it can not be repaired and a partial amount of £146.33 would be refunded to me.

I feel quite uneasy about this as even though the card is a couple of years old I , I paid over £250 for it and had no plans to upgrade any time soon as I rarely game on PC anyway nowadays.

So my question is, can I get a graphics card that is similar (or better) than the price I have been refunded.

I was quite happy with my graphics card and part of me is quite annoyed I wasnt given the option of keeping it as I could have just used the two DVI ports instead.

This was the card I had anyway.

What do you people think? Can I get a better one for roughly the amount refunded or should I complain?

Thanks,

Sam

Hello... You can get a GTX 1060 3GB for $199 US... Will be NEW... Less heat and less power more performance? for about 20 more pounds. B / this might be a good thing/opportunity for you?

You could ASk for the card back and use only the DVI connectors... but who knows what might go wrong with it in the near future? B / maybe the card just needs a Firmware re-flash to wake the HDMI port back up.

Cheers I'll check them out

Hello... PASSMARK is free downloadable hardware testing, APP with an option to up load your hardware Test results... So samples are what people have uploaded to their DATA base... it is a Live/living public hardware test results. Because it is a NEW model, there are very few people (samples) using them right now.

The GTX1060 3GB is ranked 12th on this list http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html Understand that different Gaming software Performance will vary between models/brands of cards... but if you are happy with Nvidia GPU's then the GTX1060 or better models will offer the same Goodness we've come to expect from them. I do like Nvidia so I'd be happy with another one. The only thing I don't really understand is the amount of variations in models.

For example here on ebuyers site, there is a page full of 1060s ranging from £180 to almost £300. Whats the difference in them really between the brands? What's good to look out for?

My 770 for example stuck out as good because it was the windforce edition that had three fans.

Thanks for your help in assisting me :D

Hello... Well these NEW NVIDIA GPU's use a lot less power and thus less Heat from them... Power and energy savings is a Industry and $$$ driving force... SO... you will NOT need all those FANs any more. B )

There are 3GB & 6GB models, more less Fan models, and connection types... How many monitors or 4K in your future?

Look at the reviews, what I'm seeing is that the little one FAN card ZOTEC card has a lot of happy customers, so Far... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500405

Understand this is a New product, NOT Many reviews... and Looks really SMALL... But like I said this is the Standard Evolution in Chip making... for $20 more you could give it a whirl and have a new warranty on your GPU/hardware. B /

Ok cool, I'll have to have a look and a think :) Yeah what you say makes sense. I suppose its probably done me a favour in the long run as I'm getting some money back towards a better card.

I won't be gaming in 4K any time soon I don't think. I suppose I just need at least 1 HDMI and 1 DVI port. I'll have a look and pick a couple I like. Is there any particular brand names that you know that stand out as the stronger products? Zotec for example?

Hello... EVGA is always been trouble free for me... I own a ZOTEC 460, I got real cheap on EBAY because of a heating problem... there was a Assembly/part problem with Heat Sink... the Heatsink did not have the clearance for a capacitor on the Board B /... I cut away the Heatsink and got the card working great... and I see a lot of Heat and Temperature Complaints on ZOTEC products... I think they have a Quality Control problem at times, with putting them together... I typically check ZOTEC Cards out First, also the Thermal Paste on them before using them... and don't get any call backs on them B )

From what I've read so far it seems like the 1060 was definitely a great recommendation. However, the next big decision would be the 3gb or 6gb model. My thoughts are that for the sake of an extra £50, would I be 'future proofing' myself a little bit. Most games I see nowadays recommend 4gb VRAM for high texture settings and that. Is it really worth it?

Thanks again for all your help :)

Can someone offer a bit of final advice.

What is the current equivalent of the GTX 770, power wise. It was absolutely fine for me to be honest. I don't quite need the power to upgrade to a 1060 but I think the 1050ti might be a little under powered.

I rarely game on PC nowadays but would like a card that has pretty much the same specs give or take.

Thanks.

Sam
