I want to upgrade my cpu for better performance in fortnite. $200 max. I looked on pcpartpicker and it seems not too many cards are compatible with my motherboard. Im thinking the i5-4690k but its old. Will that be okay? If not, any CPU upgrade suggestions under 200? Will I have to get a new motherboard if I want,.

Solution
You having a dual core, is your problem here. Easiest/cheapest option would be getting a Xeon 1231v3, off Ebay, for a CPU upgrade. It is basically an i7 4770, without integrated graphics. If you can afford a bit more, than $200, then this. It gets you a much better CPU, for modern games, and an upgrade path.

Here is a modern upgrade of CPU, RAM and MOBO. The Ryzen 1600AF is basically a slightly slower clockspped Ryzen 2600 but at 85USD its the best deal for a modern CPU. This comes in just a few bucks over your budget and would be a better deal if you can't find a cheap used CPU for your current board

Here is the CPU, it doesn't show on pcpartspicker: https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Processor-Wraith-Stealth-YD1600BBAFBOX/dp/B07XTQZJ28

Here's the rest of the system

Sadly the 1600AF cannot be found for 85$ anymore, last time I checked it was over 100$.

But yeah if you can increase your budget to 250-300$ you can get a new PC. If you only play Fortnite then get the 4770K or the Xeon if its cheaper. A new PC is not worth it for Fortnite, you won't see any difference.

75$ Xeon 1231V3: https://www.ebay.com/itm/143531733676

Would getting the E3-1230 instead of E3-1231 be fine because on ebay its going for 40 compared to 75 and it also comes with the stock cooler while 1231 doesn't and on cpu user benchmark the performance is very close.
