Ok guys I need some advice on upgrading my mother board and cpu in my pc. I am currently running an Amd FX 8320 @ 3.8 ghz and its just not holding up anymore.

My budget will be between 2 and 3 hundred dollars and I most likely won't be able to go over that.

I was thinking about going with either a Ryzen 5 or and older Intel build, but the Ryzen 5 build seems like it would be more than I can afford.

Now for Intel I was looking at either an I5 4670k or and I7 2600k. I know they are both old now and their isn't really an upgrade path for either one and if I stay with this I can keep my ram and that would save me some money.

I am leaning more toward the 2600k since from research I have done, it still holds up very well in today's games when overclocked and I found a few decent boards between 70 and hundred dollars that will support overclocking for the cpu and the cpu itself is around 100 on ebay which would keep me in my budget.

Now am all ears on other options so please give your opinions and also would it be worth upgrading from my current cpu to either one of those Intel chips?

Also please forgive any grammar or miss spelling as I am typing this from my phone.

Thank you.

instead of spending $300 on a chip thats a number of years old already with no real upgrade path, i'd suggest something along the lines of a ryzen 3 system and then upgrade to a ryzen 5 or 7 later on. AMD says they will be supporting the AM4 platform through like 2020 or so. The ryzen 3 2200g is a pretty good chunk more capable than the old FX-8320, and paired with a motherboard and 16 GB of ddr4 it comes in under $300. You end up with a platform that should last you quite a while. the ryzen 3 even outperforms the i7-2600k in many situations, including gaming.
