Need Advice on Video Editing New Build

Hello,

I am trying to build a pretty decent video editing computer that can handle Red 4K footage using Premiere Pro. I don't want to spend $5K on a Red Rocket card, but want to be able to upgrade to it in the future if possible.

Here is what I've pieced together as what I believe would be good, but may be picking things that are overkill since I don't know where the bottlenecks will be:

So, I need to know if any of that is overkill (like if I need a 1200W power supply).

But I'm having the hardest time with the Hard Drive selection.

Option 1:
4 HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 2TB 7200 RPM in RAID 1+0 using the motherboard as controller

Option 2:
Using 2 Seagate Cheetah 600GB 15000RPM drives, one for source, the other for rendering to. No raids.

Option 3 - Get a raid controller for option 1 or 2 above. For #2, probably just Raid 0, and using the external for backup.

My current Option 1 Build is around $3K, which was my goal.

Option #2 is $200 more.

Option #3 adds $500.

First things first. NO TO X58! Dead platform. Try this instead.

Not sure about video card, I'll let the pro's on video editing handle that.
1200w PSU is definitely overkill, especially with only 1 video card. Try 750w, gives plenty of headroom while being much cheaper. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194086
The Noctua CPU cooler is a bit pricey. Unless you plan to overclock to 5GHz, you can get away with a cheaper cooler to be sure.

From what I know about video editing is that you dont need that good of graphics card unless your doing gaming or 3d design. I would recommend down grading your graphics card to a gtx 460 and go with the two 15000 rpm drives in raid 0. Also you need a better raid controller, one that supports sata III (6gb/s)

Thanks for the information. It sounds like I can get the cheaper CPU, Power Supply, and Graphics card and spend that money on the raid controller. I'm thinking of getting this raid controller instead:

Then I can go for the RAID 0 with the Cheetahs, and plan to use the external backups on a regular basis. I might just stick with the big fan since it is only $30 difference...

Sounds alright. For a CPU cooler, unless you plan on overclocking, stock would be fine. If you'd like to overclock, the CM Hyper 212+ is about as good as it gets for price/performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 Check the reviews on it! It's pretty crazy.
