Hello,
I am trying to build a pretty decent video editing computer that can handle Red 4K footage using Premiere Pro. I don't want to spend $5K on a Red Rocket card, but want to be able to upgrade to it in the future if possible.
Here is what I've pieced together as what I believe would be good, but may be picking things that are overkill since I don't know where the bottlenecks will be:
Intel Core i7-980 Gulftown 3.33GHz

ASUS P6X58D-E

CORSAIR XMS3 4GB x 6 (24GB Total)

Crucial m4 128 GB (OS+Apps)

GTX 580

COOLER MASTER HAF 932

Corsair AX1200 Gold Power Supply

Pioneer BDR 206

Noctua NH-D14
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608018&Tpk=Noctua%20NH-D14
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116992
External backup Western Digital Elements 2TB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136471
So, I need to know if any of that is overkill (like if I need a 1200W power supply).
But I'm having the hardest time with the Hard Drive selection.
Option 1:
4 HITACHI Deskstar 7K3000 2TB 7200 RPM in RAID 1+0 using the motherboard as controller

Option 2:
Using 2 Seagate Cheetah 600GB 15000RPM drives, one for source, the other for rendering to. No raids.

Option 3 - Get a raid controller for option 1 or 2 above. For #2, probably just Raid 0, and using the external for backup.
3ware 9650SE-8LPML PCI Express SATA II Controller Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816116043
My current Option 1 Build is around $3K, which was my goal.
Option #2 is $200 more.
Option #3 adds $500.
Option ? - 4 Cheetahs in (1+0)?
Let me know if there are other options, build advice, or any gaping holes in my buy list.
Thanks
