Wishing to upgrade my tower a little.
Currently have a Msi AMD radeon r9 280 3g graphics card. Would like to know the best thing to upgrade to without having to invest in a bigger PS.

Thankyou in advance

Solution
1660 Super .... or RX 5700 COmpare costs and choose the best you can afford within reason, weighing performance/value at your chosen res.

(You can compare the above two cards with other cards in a few games below..; the RX580/590 occasionally has great pricing and is still quite competent, IMO)

I'd not get a slower GPU now even if you can't use all of it currently, but then end up overly GPU-limited when you necessarily upgrade CPU/MB/RAM not too long down the road anyway...
An R9 280 is a pretty power-hungry graphics card with a 250 watt TDP, so almost any current card should have similar or lower power requirements.

How much were you looking to spend and what are the rest of your system specs? Even current ~$200 USD graphics cards can be up to twice as fast as that card, so long as they are not being limited by the rest of the system in a particular game.

CPU - i5 4670k
Ram - 8gb
Motherboard - ASRock H87 performance ATX

Willing to spend up to $500

Hey, so I found this for 560 $ c.a
I recommend getting an AIO Cooler For the AMD ryzen 7 2700 cpu later and Overclock it to 4.0
GHz
Otherwise this setup is pretty good for the money and later on you would only need to get a better gpu, the ram is pretty darn good and the CPU won't need replacing for a few years at the very least

I would get this setup and then focus on cooling for the CPU and Overclocking it for Really good performance
also, overclock ram to 3200mhz and it´s cl14 so pairs pretty fuckin well with the CPU
The Gpu is good BUT if you want something really good consider an Amd radeon 5700 XT with a triple fan cooling case not the single blower fan case (This GPU costs around 400 bucks so maybe something you will do later on)

the mobo is a b450 Aourus m, I have it and I love it

Thanks mate. Will probably go with the ex 5700. Just a few questions. Wont need a bigger power supply or better cooling if I get this with my current gear? And what CPU would you recommend to get in the future?

Dont need a bigger pwr supply, you need an rx5700 with 3 fans if you want to keep it cool
And ryzen 7 2700 is a pretty good cpu when it is overclocked and has an "AIO" cooler
