So my system i built in 2017. I originally git this

2700x
Gigabyte x470 auros
16gb. g.skill. 3600 CL16 memory
750w. EVGA Supernova G2
Asus strix ROG 1080ti.
870 evo SSD 1TB
256gb SSD
1TB WDblack HDD

And my tower i bought a Thermaltake view 71, went all custom watercooling with two 360mm EK radiators. And thermaltake riing plus fans. EK cpu block, two tall reservoirs with an EK pump. And 3 weeks later got a thermaltake block for my 1080ti. I spent like 4000$ in the end with keyboard mouse. Bose QC 35 2headphones. 27 inch 1440 curved monitor. Basically my setup was identical to reviews with the fancy rgb thermaltake fans and view 71 case which was new at the time.

Then i upgraded to a x570 gigabyte auros and a 3800x like 2 years later. And got a 500gb NVME drive.

And now i just sold my 1080ti for 250$ on ebay (215$ after ebay theivery 14% take). And i bought a 6900xt 5 days ago with a heatkiller waterblock on it for 600$. Which i thought was a amazing price. Especially since i wanted a waterblock for my custom watercooling.

Now ive dabled with the card. Im overclocking it to 2620/2720 high low and i cant go any higher it artifacts any higher. Memory at 2150 tight timings. I get about 8fps more vs stock on average.

I love the decision i made.. its 2-3x faster than my 1080ti.. im talking going from 40-60 fps on medium/high details with the 1080ti..to 70-100+ on ultra with the 6900 its vastly better. But im questioning it. In total war warhammer maxed out im seeing the same 3x higher frame rate.. but im also seeing 70-80 fps maxed out. Basically back to my 1080ti frame rate but of course maxed out vs medium/ high and things turned off. Lol.

And this is making me wonder.. is this really future proof ? Was spending 600$ worth it ? Or am i being picky and retarded ?

Should i sell this 6900xt for 600-650$ and use my 200$ fir my 1080ti and just splurge another 100-150$ to get a 7900xt ? Theyre in stock everywhere.. 25+ in microcenter.

Or should i keep the 6900xt. And get a 5800x 3D cache cpu instead ? Thats the other issue.

I mainly planned to get a 7900xt but i had to buy a new monitor as well my 27 inch 1440 viotek monitor was dying the last 2 months. So i got a new DELL 1 week ago for 250$.. and thats another reason i got 6900xt as i lost 250$ doing this. And i figure i might as well get a 6900xt, new monitor and a 5800x 3d.

But now im thinking.. get a 7900xt new monitor and keep the 3800x.

I also dont like my HDD sitution.. my 256gb SSD is old/slow. My 1tb western digital spinning drive.. is well slow its just for storage thats it. My 500gb 970 nvme is constantly out if space can onky fit like 3-4 video games before its done. And my 1TB 870 evo is in the same boat.

16gb of memory is also nearing its edge ive seen 14GB+ of usage gaming now

Soo i talk a lot sorry.. knock sense into me and tell me what i should do ? It seems the 7900xt is maybe 15% faster than a 6950xt. My 6900xt is oced so im just using a 6950 for comparison on reviews. But then my 3800x is slow for gaming.. So if i get a 5800x 3d, keep the 6900xt. would i see a larger fps gain doing this.. Versus keeping my 3800x and selling the 6900xt and getting a 7900xt.

Also realizing the 7900xt has major driver issues.. hotspot issues.. and the waterblocks out are 200+$ which is insaine.. So i couldnt watercool it for a long time. So maybe its best to get a 5800x 3d.. and focus on my HDD situation and get more memory instead ? Sorry i have a lot of scenarious in my head.

I just dont wanna regret getting this 6900xt and find it isnt gonna last me but for a year

Happy New Year!

Out of curiosity, did you use DDU to rid your platform off of the prior GPU's drivers, before you proceeded to install the latest drivers for the new GPU? Side note, what BIOS version are you on for your motherboard?

Could you un us through all the storage drives you have at hand? How much do you have to spend in totality?

Last bit in inquiry, I'm assuming you maintain the loop on a regular basis...?

i bought a 6900xt 5 days ago with a heatkiller waterblock on it for 600$
Could you be specific on what you purchased? On that note, specificity would be a plus for your other possible items that you're eyeing a purchase.

Its a 6900xt with a heatkiller waterblock and a Dell 27 inch s2722dgm curved 1440 165hz monitor. This is what i bought in the last 7-10 days..

Pretty sure its an AMD reference 6900xt. Yea i did driver uninstaller to remove nvidias drivers. As for my bios ? You mean on my x570 motherboard right ? No i havent updated that in maybe 2+ years. If it aint broke dont fix it right ? I know ill have too with the 5800x 3d if i go that route

My HDD situation i have

500gb 970 EVO nvme or was it 980 ? I forgot
1tb 870 evo ssd
256gb ssd
1tb western digital black.

Yea i been building overckocking benchmarking pcs for 26 years.. but the last 5 years i just kinda gave up on being in the loop and just played with the expensive system i originally built. Only recently i got back in the loop. Did research waited for the 7900xt to come out.. and decided needing a new monitor was more important as my viotek was a samsung va panel that had major issues for lots of people that causes weird horizontal lines to form when cold then progressivly got worse n worse.

After the monitor purchase which i got on the 25th. I decided to go to a used 6900xt with the waterblock for 600$ and figured ill get a 5800x 3d with it after i sell my 1080ti which i just did.

So right now.. i have 370$ in cash.. thats it. I could resell my 6900xt get 600 at least back. And buy a 7900xt. Or keep the 6900xt. And get a 5800x 3d.

Or keep the 3800x 6900xt and get a bigger NVME drive so i can stop uninstalling and shuffling games around on my 500gb nvme.

Id like to feel like my best upgrade route would be a 7900xt even with the 3800x because i game at 1440p.. but then it seems a 5800x 3d is 15-20% faster even at 1440p on average , some titles 0%.

So maybe a 5800x3d is better. I dunno my brain hurts. Also dunno if i wanna deal with driver issues.. and other bs on a 7900xt. And id have to get a waterblock for it another 200$.. as i hate reference heatsinks. I dunno lol so many variables
