Hey there to everyone looking up at this post.I'd like some advice on whether i should upgrade my PC or sell it off and get a new one. Currently i have the following specs :
GPU: MSI r9 270x
MB: Asus p8b75-v
CPU : i5 3470
RAM : 8gb Corsair Vengeance ddr3
PSU : 620W Corsair (bronze)
CASE: Cooler Master
HDD: 1TB Toshiba

Its been around 4-5 years since i got this bulid and i havnt upgraded since. My budget is of around 1000$ and i intend to use the new/upgraded PC for gaming mostly every genre so im not biased AMD between Nvidia but after using AMD GPU for these past few years i felt like i should get an Nvidia GPU although using another AMD GPU with crossfire seems a more viable option.
I felt like i should replace my CPU and Motherboard and upgrade my RAM and add on another GPU but then again i felt like now that the manufacturing of ddr4 has started should i invest on ddr3?
Extra Info : I use a Dell 2240L monitor
I intend to run future games like gta 6(hopefully xD) smoothly
If i upgrade my PC then my budget would be around 500$ give or take a little.
I also plan on getting at least 2TB of HDD space and was wondering if i should pickup
a SDD or not
Sorry if i lacked proper information and grammar. Thank You in advance to anyone who is looking into this.

i tend to have GPU memory problems my r9 is 2gb which doesnt suffice. Also do u mean to replace my r9 with another gpu? wont it bottleneck?

You're on the cusp here of of owning a setup that was in its day a very decent midrange gaming system but is now getting to the stage where it will struggle with newer game releases.

As zoltan above says , the main setup although old is still 'reasonably' capable.

That old 270x is the weakest component there without a doubt.

The issue at the moment is that down to the cryptomining craze decent midrange gpu's are vastly overpriced - especially in the usa .

6 months back a 4gb rx580 could be had for $200 or so - they're now $300+ , 1060 3gb the same , 6gb 1080 & 8gb rx 580 are upwards of $400 (if you can find them).

1050ti remaims for the most part more reasonably priced BUT Im not convinced its a massively viable upgrade for the $200 it will cost - 30-40% more performance at best.

Likewise a platgorm upgrade, new intel cpu's (especially the i5 8400) are well priced & a good upgrade but boards are expensive , ryzen is also very very well priced , the boards are too BUT ryzen + is due in 2 months & will likely be worth waiting for.

Either way , ddr4 - which is required for any new platform , is currently the highest price its ever been to my knowledge.

In essence I couldn't think of a worse time than the present to actually upgrade or build new.

I would hold off , manage with what you have , & dive on the upgrade path when/if prices come down to reasonable levels

The CPU will not be a bottleneck. VRAM is only a limiting factor over 1080p.

So u suggest i wait it out ? Seeing how things are i bet itll take at least a year or more for things to drop to a reasonable degree right? how about i invest only on a strong GPU and replace my r9 would that be logical?

Yes. Besides the cards I recommended above you can look for a used gtx980 as well.
