Hi again guys 😀

I have a question about the longer range antennas, since i only tend to use omni antennas, which usually have smaller range.

So i want to have wifi in my second house which i come 2/3 times a month and i want to share a wifi with my neighbour who lives near there. So i researched a little bit, and found out that GRID antennas (directional ones), can be nice spot for this (at least i think).
It has 16db, 2.4ghz, and uses 15 m 75Ω of coax cable (which is not good, but still ok for small range like mine).

Is that an ok antenna for this smaller range ? I would connect it to some pci wifi card, but don't know if grid antennas are good with stable wifi ?

Solution
I wouldn't do it that way. I would get an outdoor WIFI bridge, mount it outside and run ethernet cable inside. A device like an Engenius ENS202 is much less of an eye sore than a parabolic antenna. It can be mounted up to 50m from the desired location and can feed a WIFI access point if desired for cellphone or laptop connectivity. Price for the Engenius is only $20 more than a name brand parabolic antenna.

If your neighbor is agreeable, you could add one of these to their house to create a point-to-point link.

First of all it's based in US only, and second most important, that's way too high for my budget. I might just as well buy internet from ips. I am looking for 20 to 40 euros range budget.

Ok, that is a really good idea of solving that issue, like really good especially because you can have internet for other devices, but the thing is i can't buy it now. This is good plan for me to buy later, probably next year when i get hands on little more money.
Right now i'm just looking for some cheap stuff like these antennas, that can provide me at least some "ok" internet for my computer there. Just wanted to hear out any experiences about them, like the stability of signals and stuff.
But thanks for reply, i'll be definatly looking forward to get something like this next year.

You are going to have a very hard job getting under the $50 price point when you include both the antenna and the cable.

The cable is what is going to kill your costs. When you try to use cheap cable especially when you are using 75ohm rather than 50ohm cable you can lose as much DB in the cable as your antenna adds.

The cable you really should use is called LMR600 it is well over $1. per foot plus you have to pay extra for the ends which will run you $2-3 and take special tools to install. You could pay $50 just for a 15m cable.

Years ago you used to see people talk about putting routers in waterproof boxes so they could mount them outside next to the antenna to solve this issue. Now the outdoor bridge sell premade ones for about the same price as just the antenna.
