Need and upgrade from AMD to Nvidia

Okay so basically I need an upgrade on my graphics card.
I have AMD components and through using them have realized it was a mistake choosing AMD as Nvidia gets alot more support and generally are a bit better (in my opinion).
I have;
Sapphire AMD Radeon R9 270x 2GB
AMD (Piledriver) FX-6300 3.50 ghz
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
I built my PC so will probably replace my parts over time, I know I will have to stick with an AMD CPU as my motherboard is AMD socket only. I would like to replace my graphics card with an Nvidia alternative, I would like an upgrade in terms of something that is more up to date and has better specs. What suggestions does anyone have for an Nvidia graphics card that would be suitable for fairly recent/upcoming games at decent FPS games and works with my board and CPU? I would like an upgrade to 4GB, don't really have a budget but don't want to spend anything too extensive/ unnecessarily high card.

the RX 480 4GB is a very good card, you should consider it. AMD has improved now and is making better hardware.

Okay, I have heard this card is good, is it really not worth the upgrade to Nvidia? as I have heard the 1060 is only slightly more in terms of cost but performs miles better than the AMD equivalent.

You will get what you pay for at any price point.
There is no issue using amd or nvidia with a amd motherboard.
You want several tiers of improvement or you may be dissatisfied.
That would be something like a GTX1060 or RX-480.

You may well be cpu limited.
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

When I turn graphics quality down on Dying Light I have great frame increase, haven't tried with resolution yet though .
