I need assistance with overclocking. I'm using MSI Afterburner to overclock the GPU and RealTemp and CPU-Z for monitoring purposes. I also can benchmark using 3d Mark 11. Below are my system specs:
Power Supply:
CORSAIR HX Series HX850 850W
CPU:
Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core
RAM:
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Motherboard:
ASUS P6X58D PREMIUM LGA 1366 INTEL X58 SATA 6GB/S USB 3.0 ATX INTEL
Video Card:
Diamond Radeon HD 5970 (Hemlock) 2BG 512 (256x2) GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16
So far, I'm able to overclock my video card to 780 MHz core and 1100 MHz memory clock without 3D Mark 11 crashing. 3D Mark will crash if I push the core to 790.
I haven't attempted to overclock my CPU because I'm new to that. If I successfully overclock the CPU, will my GPU be able to handle higher MHz? Essentially, how should I start overclocking my CPU?
Thanks!
