Need some bookshelf speakers for my desktop for music listening, movie watching, and gaming.

Budget: $300-$500. Not trying to save money, use the $500 just make sure I get my $s worth.

I know nothing of sound quality. Still using 10 yr. speakers from my 1st pc (they still sound good!). Only research is sound comparison videos on Youtube and I'm linking the Audioengine A5+ so far because the sound seems more realistic to me; other speakers sound too enclosed. Looking to add Subwoofer down the road.

Have looked at:

For speakers in the higher range of prices you really should head to a store and listen to them. There are a few dozen powered speakers that are good, what you will like though is a personal thing. For example Bose products sell like crazy but I have not found more than a few of their products that I like, and even then there are products that can be 1/4 the price that I like better. Edifier is a good model range, I like M-Audio stuff, the THX certified Logitech speakers, Swan has good reviews.

If you want to add a sub, don't get 2.0 powered speakers, you will have a hard time connecting a sub to them unless you get a set designed to work with a sub (which would often be from the same brand). Or get a 2.1 setup with a sub included. https://www.amazon.com/Edifier-Bookshelf-Subwoofer-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B077Y6PHKQ?tag=techsounded-20
