I have two separate HD4870s which have been in use in separate computers. Now one of the machines is upgraded to a 4870x2, and I want to do CrossfireX with the two single 4870s. The problem is that I think I've lost my ribbon cables. I may be able to find one of them, but I think finding both may be impossible.

My question, Will full blown Crossfire X work with 1 cable and not have a performance degradation ? Also, if all else fails can I buy the crossfire ribbon cables anywhere?

Thanks in advance

Call the vendor... In my case I called visiontek when i was evaluating 2 3870. Visiontek mailed me the crossfire cable. I purchase 2 3870 and both have no crossfile cable even the box indicated it is provided. But again visiontek sent me the crossfire cable. Just wait a few days...

i dont think you need two because i think theres two ports on each so you can have tri or quad crossfire...like the one in the middle connects to the two around it in tri... that is why the 4870x2 only has one port, because you can have a max of quad, and each x2 card counts as two. if you really need it you can easily fins it on newegg

I have researched this (using the collective brains on this forum) a little as I wanted to know the answer for my 2 4770's and the conclusion that I reached is that it makes NO difference. In short, you only need one and you will not see any performance drop with it.
