Scatterbrain!
Hi all, firstly thanks for those who will answer, as I am pc - challenged.
Less than 2 years ago, I purchased a motherboard configuration package from Newegg. The Mb is an Asus M5A97 Plus and one of the options for compatible CPU was the AMD FX 9370. Anyway , my monitor broke so I took apart my pc and it wasn’t until now and newly found research that I’ve realized the cpu emits 220W when the Mb only withstands 140W. Told Newegg and they offered me a 10 dollar gift card since although it was a poor recommendation, too much time has passed.
For those of you still with me - thanks again, I just want to know if anyone can just tell me a basic MB + Cpu combo so I can game again. I play a lot of blizzard games and steam games. Any suggestions are appreciated (budget friendly options would be the knees of the bees )

Sincerely,
Fred

Ryzen is better value for money since you can add any ryzen cpu till 2020 with bios update.
Sorry bro the ram is taking too much money. If you want to go to intel then you have alternative....

Hi there, and thank you for your time! :)

If it is possible, I would like to pay anywhere within $80-150 (for MB + CPU) . I am going to try and trade my current mb/cpu if I can but ultimately I am hoping I can sell both the MB then CPU so I can use that money to start fresh. As far as my monitor goes, I have bought the following:

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-21-5-Inch-HDMI-Monitor/dp/B015WCV70W/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

I would say I play a decent amount of FPS games, but tbh I usually just stick to Heroes of the Storm or RPG.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer

Admirable

The very best option for your budget would be trying to get a 2nd hand Ivy Bridge/Sandy Bridge CPU/MB combo. Then you can reuse the rest of the components, including your RAM which you would not be able to do if you had gone with any new platform, Intel or AMD.

I would have to agree with this. RAM is rather expensive right now due to a shortage, and the newest CPUs require DDR4. If you want to maintain a budget around that price range, you'll likely want to go with an Intel CPU from a few generations back. Thankfully, they aren't too far behind the current models in terms of per-core performance. Haswell (4000-series processors) should work with DDR3 as well. You would probably want to look for a pre-owned i5 or i7 processor and motherboard from the 2000, 3000, or 4000 generations. I would skip i3 or Pentium processors from those generations though, as they are only dual-cores, while you would want at least a quad-core for modern games.
