Hello, I recently got an old system (Lenovo Thinkcentre M58P Type 7484) from market with these specifications CPU: Intel Core2Duo E4600 SLA94 MALAY 2. GHz/2M/800/06 L829A941 RAM: 4 GB Hard Drive: 320. Actually I have a processor (In good condition) Intel Core2Quad Q6600 SLACR MALAY 2.4 GHz/8M/1066/05A L7398507 & want to change with current one, Kindly suggest/confirm the above change can be made or not.

Ok, I have seen the list & it doesn't compatible with Intel Core2Quad Q6600, But on the other hand, I also look out that it can be upgrade-able to Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00GHz/6M. So I tried it, but it fails to comply with as the system recognizes the up-gradation but the motherboard didn't work well as the fans were work at full speed. Then I restored it to previous one Intel Core2Duo E4600 SLA94 MALAY 2. GHz/2M/800/06 L829A941 & now it works fine. But I want to upgrade.

Did you try to go into bios and seeing if you can tune the fan curve? Maybe changing the processor resets any Lenovo bios tuning and you need to go in and change it back

First kindly note my current machine specifications:
Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p Type 7484 Tower
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.40GHz/2M/800
RAM: 2*2 GB (4GB) DDR3
Hard Drive: 320 GB Samsung
Chipset: Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset
Windows: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit SP1
Actually I have checked that link (desktops and all in ones :: thinkcentre m series desktops :: thinkcentre m58p :: 7484 :: 7484wwa :: mjzym78 - Lenovo Support PK), I selected Processors in Commodity Type & it listed Intel Core 2 FRU: E8400 3.00GHz/6M/1333 as compatibility with my machine. Further more I installed the processor (Intel Core 2 FRU: E8400 3.00GHz/6M/1333) without changing any other component. When I powered up the machine it starts without pressing the power button (May be due to upgrade), It doesn't display anything & the fans (CPU Fan & Casing Fan) runs at full speed, upon this type malfunctioning, I turns off the machine & re-check any error in Processor/Heat Sink installation. Then I tried/turn on machine once again but it doesn't work as mentioned above. Then If I remove 1*2GB DDR3 RAM then it displays, but the fans still work at full speed.
If I stepped back to my original Processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.40GHz/2M/800) with 2*2 GB (4GB) DDR3 it works fine again, but why Lenovo mentions that it can be up-gradable to Intel Core 2 FRU: E8400 3.00GHz/6M/1333.

I see lenovo has a driver scanner perhaps see what it has to say.

but why Lenovo mentions that it can be up-gradable to Intel Core 2 FRU: E8400 3.00GHz/6M/1333.

15 years ago, when this PC was brand new, it was compatible with all those CPU upgrades. Now, a lot of time has passed and components age. Due to that, components doesn't work at their fullest anymore and that may be the issue. E.g capacitors capacity does reduce in time and MoBo may not have enough resources to run the more demanding CPU.

You can always contact Lenovo customer service and ask their help, since they were the ones who built it 15 years ago. Either they are willing to help you, or tell you to buy new PC.
