[SOLVED] Need Cooling Advice For My Build

Hello All

Should i have Thermal Power Limit activated, should i have it on Auto or Enabled?

Trying to keep temps in check til i can afford afford to purchase the needed items to replace the Stock CPU cooler with a Noctua UH9s Chromax Black Cooler--I think will fit into Thermaltake V200 TG RGB case fine, and still look good. System Built June 2020 from Local shop, and will i notice a massive Performance improvement once i do get the Stock Cooler Upgraded

Board is Gigabyte B460M-DS3H V1.0

You did not provide a cpu, so hard to give an opinion. Removing the power limit is like overclocking, so it should stay enabled until you have the better cooler, auto will also be enabled.

CPU is Intel 10700
I thought i put that in the original post, but maybe i did forget it oops

Yeah overclocking definitely don't wanna do, by default Thermal Power limits wasn't enabled when first brought it home from shop and Battlefield 4 was approaching 98C while gaming

Turned that on, and highest it goes now is up to 80 or a little higher at times, depending on Ambient room temp, try to keep room as cool as i possibly can

80c. under load is OK from a safety point of view.
The cpu monitors it's own temperature and will slow down or shut off to protect itself if it detects a dangerous temperature.
That is around 100c.
But to let the turbo mechanism ramp up fully, one of the conditions is a 70c. temperature.
You will perform better with a great cooler.

Noctua coolers are the best.
Easy to install and quiet.
Decent pick on a NHU9s up to a point.

Your case specs say it can support a 160mm high cooler.
The U9s uses a 92mm fan which, like your stock fan, can get noisy when it spins up.
I might suggest the NH-U12s currently $80 on newegg 158mm tall

Ok Will switch to NH-U12S as Noctua compatiblity lists show its compatible with Case and Processor, so should fit just fine, and provide the top notch cooling needed for this build. Surely be much better than the current stock cooler is

Be a bit before i can afford it though, hopefully in next few weeks and not any later than that i'm hoping lol, bet afterwards of installing it, i'll be like why didn't i do this sooner lol.

Glad to hear it's easy to install, and plenty of videos online im sure of NH-U12S installs i can watch in meantime til i can afford to purchase, and get it installed for very first time replacing air cooler myself
