Hello, I will be getting Asus Strix GTX 970, I have 990XA-UD3 And i will not change this one, I have 8120 fx processor but want to upgrade it, can you guys suggest me something?

Solution
Yup, nothing new that'll be relevant to us will popup by then :)

i3 has 2 processors, but with Hyper-Threading, works with 2 Virtual cores, so it works like a 4 core CPU, not as good as a Physical 4 core though...
i5 is a proper 4 Core CPU, with Turbo-boost tech that'll make it go even faster when its running on 1-2 cores.
i7 is a beast, with 4 cores, Turbo-boost tech, AND Hyper threading, so it acts like 8 cores...

i5 is A-OK for casual gaming and working... That's what i think :)
Any CPU you can upgrade to will bottleneck your GPU. If you want full performance you need to upgrade your motherboard and CPU to Intel, you don't have a choice if you want 100% of that GPU. I've see people with AMD's top of the line FX CPUs come in here all the time and complain about performance and it's always a CPU bottleneck.

FX-8350 is good to look at...
Also check out FX-8370...

Both are pretty good.
But, if you spend a little more, go to Intel...

Intel is WAY better than AMD.
But, if you don't wanna switch... 8350 is a close shot to intel CPUs

Hmmm, Intel Skylake CPUs are the rave now...
i5s are the main stay of computing and gaming.
If you wanna futureproof yourself, get an i7 CPU, but it's quite expensive, but much more powerful than a i5...

However, what counts is your GPU... if you're a gamer, and your CPU... if you do heavy computing works.

Get an Intel decent i5, with a decent Mobo, and you're set with your GPU :)

I will be playing games and doing some rendering ( audio rendering) i will be upgrading to 16 gigs and ASUS GTX 970 is the gpu, i pick this because this one is good for both rendering and gaming

Intel's architecture is far more efficient. You cannot compare clock speeds from one processor to another unless they are the same architecture.

The only difference between an i5 CPU and an i7 is that an i7 has hyper threading. Performance gains will only be observed in a few, certainly not worth the $100 extra an i7 CPU commands.

I have a old Sandy-Bridge i5 3750 @3.4GHz... And it's going Strong even after 3+ years of use :)
So, you'll have no regrets on switching to Intel... None at all.
