Well a 8600 has similar performance to the 7800, as does the 8800 has similar performance to the 9600, It's the same for almost all nvidia cards, where *600 has the same performance as the (*-1)800. Understand? Or in words, the high end card of generation 1 has the same performance as the mid range level card of generation 2.

Anyways, back on topic, yes, you should be able to play the game, it just wont look all that shiny.

I've had an 8600GTS before and it was quite a good card.

You are so wrong. 7600 = 8600 but w\dx10 the 7800 gets it's arse handed to it by the 8800GTS(G80/G92)/GT/GTX as does the 9600GSO/GT.

ff ontopic, yes, you probably should be able to play the game.

I've playes undercover on a 8600, and I would not assume that the engine for the game has changed much. Don't count on shiny graphics though

played undercover @ med-high with 40+ fps
so it was all good ! was at 1280 x 1024
actually my 8600 is oc'd to 620 mhz !

oh comon...my 8600 played carbon on max with no hiccups !
so plz..if it gets burned..its pro'lly cos of d mobile version...
and actually...i mean it ! my work laptop has a mobile 8500
and it sucks..i mean it ! my old 6800 performed better than it !

In comparing 8600's to 7800's we need to consider how the GF7's often get turned into a joke in newer-shader heavy games, allowing say an X1950 pro and 8600GTS to leave them in their dust. This is exactly what happened in NFS: Carbon... GF 7 series were a joke and even the X1800XT found itself trailing the X1950 pro.

Yeah, sure was... and then Oblivion introduced us to lush foliage. 😉

LOL, I built a new gaming rig with a 7800GT and then got hooked on Oblivion shortly after that. 🙁 Needless to say... the card got demoted to a spare machine, replaced by a similar-priced X1800XT 256MB that did so much better.

My cousin bought a 7800GTX for $600 AU. He still can't get over how much money he wasted on that thing. I myself was caught between the 7900GS and X1950 pro 2-3 years ago, but ended up with the Pro. It was a great card, and then Crysis introduced us to SSAO and decent HDR lighting. 🙁 Granted, my 3700 San Diego was more of a problem for Crysis than the Pro.

I remember from about 3 years ago that we would be dreaming of the nvidia 10**0 series cards. We estimated that it would take 6 years to get to that point. It took 3 years, and now there's the new naming system. So the GTX Series (GTS250 is still 9 series) is what we were hoping for.

Back then you could only dream of a 700$ gaming rig. Now, you get quite the game-crusher for such money.

EDIT: Time to start dreaming of 50$ quadcore 3ghz CPU's 😛

Ouch, that hurts. I bought plenty of cards over time, but at least was a bargain hunter, almost always avoiding those $400+ flagships.

Smart move on the X1950. I later got an iceQ X1950XT and sold off the X1800XT.

LOL, fun times.... I shared that same sinking boat with the single core S939 + Crysis experience. Yippee! Had found (for the time ) a way cheap FX-55 and just had to have that unlocked multi.

no point atm cos im into studies...so its like lol...my leisure..not obsession [gaming]

well...hope d green team brings out something cheap in a year or so ! like ati 😀
