I play games like League of Legends, Minecraft, and a lot of steam games on an old beater computer from 2005 right now. I play on the absolute lowest graphics settings and still get lag on a consistant basis. I've decided it's time to upgrade and I've come to you guys for some ideas. I've only created an account on here today but I have been using tomshardware on a consistant basis for over 2 years.
Thanks in advance!

Do not need --- screen, mouse, keyboard

Actually I would not recommend upgrading the old build AT ALL because there is really nothing apart from the case that can really do something . Try to find someone who is willing to buy your old PC for about 200$.
Okay, you should upgrade your PSU before anything else if you can't buy a new PC at one go. Then the first thing you should do after upgrading your PSU should be your motherboard and CPU and your RAM (because I think your PC uses DDR 2 memory but a new...
If you can just increase your budget by 100$ it would be great because of the OS . Please tell me if you can otherwise I don't think a 380$ (Money left after OS) will be any good to run most game after 2010 on even Low settings without lag because if your budget is near 500$ (Without including OS) it would be great :)

Well I've found windows 7 home premium at amazon.com for $90 if that helps any. I don't have to have windows 8. And I could consider upping my limit by $100 just to get some ideas in there. So if we called it $600 what would you have in mind?

That's great, just give me 2 minutes and please stay online so we can talk.

What about this one - http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2lLc4
Haven't done complete research. Tell me if you think any thing is cheap quality or something and I'll try my best best to keep it under your budget and still get it nice and working BTW this rig will surely handle most current gen. games at Medium with at least 60 FPS for sure. Have to go now , so sorry but tomorrow I'll surely give you an outstanding build (obviously if you don't like this one 😛)

That build looks good build I would want to consider a better power source and CPU. Also I don't know if I should consider a cooling system of some sort.

-EDIT: just noticed the motherboard as well. Thought that may be a bit overkill. As far as the case and motherboard I could go as cheap as possible and wouldn't expect it to impact the performance all that much.
I'll be honest I've never built a PC before. I've done a ton of research and price checking but never actually built anything. Looking forward to the experience!

Also I've been reading through some forums today and I'm wondering if it wouldn't be more efficient to just recycle my old hard drive and motherboard. Just upgrade the ps and gfx. Maybe a new cpu. Idk with windows what will cause me to lose the OS and what won't. I think you just need to use the same mobo. I can send you my pc specs when I get home to see if that might be a better idea. I just need my pc to run smoother and play my games without bugging out.
-EDIT: something else I just thought of. If I use my old pc parts I have an optical drive I could probably use and a fan or 2 that may still work. Just trying to save as much money as possible while also getting a nice gaming experience.

If you can afford this one-

I know I bumped the prices up on the CPU and Motherboard and those prices are without including the Optical Drive and OS but this build is completely future-proof even if you wan't to play BF4 on somewhat High or Ultra settings with minimum of 40-50 FPS. After a couple of years upgrade your GPU and you'll be good to go again to play the latest games with decent FPS. You can also get a FX 4300 instead of an I5 but that would make quite a difference an I5 will give you nice frames for at least the nest 3-4 years. It up to you now please ask for any help :)

I have been looking around and talking with some friends. I think my best bet for now would be to update my power source and processor. I have a dell inspiron 5375. Intel celeron cpu 450@2.20Ghz 2.19GHz. 2GB RAM and it's also 32bit vista. Stock gfx card. I guess this has turned into a "what should my first upgrade for under $150 be?" I know ill need a powersource for anything I upgrade. And that will probably run me about $35. But I need to figure out if a new processor would be best or a new gfx card. I feel like the processor would be best because right now I'm not worried about how good it looks. Just how fast it is. What do you think? If I should upgrade my processor and power source what ones would you suggest for my current system? My next upgrade after the cpu and ps would be my OS, hard drive, and motherboard so I guess keep that in mind. Eventually I want a new case and everything but for now small bits at a time.

Okay, now there is just one problem neither your GPU or your CPU at this time are good , so upgrading any one of it wouldn't be of any use. So you should buy a combo of both and yes it would always be recommended to buy a completely new one and just sell off the old one for about 200$ or something like that. BigBAWZ rig (right here ^^^) is a nice one and if you can sell the old one off as an office PC to someone then it would be really nice :)

See this is one of my big problems. I have to upgrade my pc while keeping the lady of the house on board. So if I want to do somethin that will keep her happy it would either have to be buying a prebuilt outright for $400 or buying small parts at a time for the one I have. Starting from scratch isn't really an option anymore. >.< so I'm pretty much stuck with going to hhgregg to buy a prebuilt or upgrading what I have little by little over a 6 month period.

Okay, Nice one 😀 .
So you can try this build (took all my guts to do this one 😛) -

Make it one by one but first the CPU, Mobo and the RAM and then the GPU and other things

You don't think I should upgrade the powersource before adding on too much? Also the *only* issue I can find with that build would be a $200 gfx. I feel like that's a bit overkill. Is there not a better option that would work with my current pc for maybe around $120?

As far as I know the 7870 is probably the best card in that range. But still if you want a 100$ card then try this one-

Well, I think we like your last idea. I've got a parts list and aside from the gfx it looks pretty good. We will probably use the $120 graphics card from your last post. Wish me luck! This will be my first time replacing parts for my pc. Thanks again for all the help.

NP 😀. Thank you for selecting my answer as the best one, and as of luck YOU ALWAYS HAVE IT :)
